A tipping gear for any given vehicle can make a long-term contribution to operational profitability over its entire working life, if you select the best one that is. Gear must be optimally sized to safely tip the heaviest likely load, but so that it is as lightweight as possible in order to maximise payload. Further, selection of high quality tipping gear means maintenance costs will be reduced over the life of the vehicle. Also, correctly installing, testing and maintaining the tipping gear will enable safe and reliable operation at all times.

At this year’s Tip-Ex exhibition in Harrogate the JOST stand stood out in particular with the most complete range of components and accessories for tipping and commercial vehicles yet. The JOST World consists of a number of unified brands including JOST, ROCKINGER, TRIDEC and EDBRO. As usual JOST exhibited on two stands: the indoor displaying a range of components and the outdoor showing several customer vehicles and hosting the traditional Edbro BBQ.

Company approaching 90 years with help from JOST
Founded in 1928, Hauliers, Longthorne of Hebden, in the Yorkshire Dales, is approaching its 90th birthday, and is into its third generation of management. Herbert Longthorne is the man responsible for founding the company, by buying a Chevrolet wagon for carting coal and cattle to local markets and thus founded a family business. In the 1930s the Chevrolet was replacedby a Bedford and Herbert was joined by his son Ken, who eventually took over running the business.

Edbro Ultra range lightens the load at the IAA show
JOST Group used the platform of the IAA show to launch its new Ultra range of Edbro cylinders. The Ultra range slims down two of the brand’s most popular cylinders, the CS17 and CS18, increasing payload without compromising on tipping speed or capacity. Designed primarily for European legislation regarding 44-50 tonne vehicles, the new cylinders can offer weight savings of up to 29kg.
