Major fleet upgrade centred on axle systems

One of Europe’s road haulage groups has expanded its fleet, ensuring that each of its new vehicles are specified to the highest standard. The new fleet is comprised of tankers and dry freight curtain siders, to which JOST UK was selected to supply axle systems and all-wheel steering systems.

For any sizeable haulage operator acquisition of new vehicles is an important element of the company’s overall strategy for stable growth and continued customer service. Such vehicles have a hard life, so before placing an order fleet managers usually undertake a thorough review of the safety critical systems available for the vehicles they’ll be buying. In this case axle and trailer steering systems from JOST UK were identified as best fit to the requirements.

Richard Flackett, JOST UK Sales Manager, explained: “This customer was planning a significant programme of investment in its fleet which would be processed for delivery during 2017 and into 2018. The new fleet included tractor and trailer units including 14.6m and 15.6m extra-long trailers and tankers. In all we supplied 45 axles from our modular ranges for the new dry freight curtain siders, ten axles for tankers and a dozen TRIDEC all-wheel steering systems for the extra-long trailers.”

As a global company JOST is asked to provide axles for many different makes and models of commercial trucks and trailers, so has developed a modular range of axle components which can be configured into complete axles that exactly meet the needs of each application. This opens up endless specification and performance possibilities while keeping the maintenance requirements simple due to the relatively small number of components. As such, JOST is able to offer axles that covers all ride heights and all standard trailer applications.

Based on an integrally welded construction, the axles are fabricated to ensure stability under even the most demanding conditions, yet are the lightest in their class. All this leads to lower operating costs and one stop maintenance for axle and suspension, vehicle capabilities optimised to their specific duties and, ultimately, lower full life cycle costs for the operators.

Flackett added: “The road haulage industry is driven by the principles of safety, reliability and efficiency. At JOST UK we stand out not just for the quality of our axle and steering systems, but for the quality of service and expertise that we bring to the table during specification.”
