On-board cranes for HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales
Sheffield-based SCX Special Projects has designed, manufactured and tested ten on-board cranes for BAE Systems. The cranes will be put into service on HMS Queen Elizabeth and her identical sister ship, HMS Prince of Wales. HMS Queen Elizabeth, which had her maiden voyage in June 2017 and is now joining flight trials with stealth fighter jets off the east coast of the United States, and HMS Prince of Wales, due for service in 2020, are the largest warships ever built or the Royal Navy, capable of carrying up to 40 aircraft each.

The Hilma division of German workholding specialist, Roemheld, has entered into a 50:50 joint venture (JV) with long term co-operation partner, Rivi Magnetics, Sassuolo, Italy. The JV company, Roemheld Rivi based in Germany, intends to leverage both partners' expertise to develop new applications for magnetic clamping technology and penetrate markets more comprehensively.

RDM, a cardboard mill located at Blandec near Saint-Omer in the Pas de Calais administrative department, consulted VERLINDE in March 2017 to install a motorised VFM jib crane to handle its Big Bags. RDM produces different types of cardboard for all sectors of industry. The mill had already called upon VERLINDE to erect an aluminium gantry crane designed for corrective maintenance applications.

A CCTV camera system designed for surveying sewers has been put to a new use - investigating concerns about a pipe blockage at a gas plant. Drainage engineers based at the Lanes Group depot in Aberdeen were called in to survey the gas pipe at the biogas generation plant near Coupar Angus, in Perth and Kinross.
