Ultra bright UV light source launched by Ultrafine

The unit is just half the size of the previous model, yet has a lower cost despite its increased UV intensity. It also offers a considerably longer lamp life in excess of 2000h.

The Superlite 100's increased intensity of 7W in the UVA range opens up new applications not possible with earlier models. With a battery connected to its 12Vdc rear socket, it is fully portable, making it possible to carry out fluorescence investigations in the field.

The Superlite 100 is brighter than anything comparable on the market, said Ultrafine managing director John Patterson. It is the first UV source that is truly portable without sacrificing brightness.

Applications where the higher intensity UV light is invaluable include leak testing of vehicle engines, where a fluorescing dye is added to the engine fuel. Another is UV endoscopy, where greater power is required to compensate for losses down the endoscope.

The output is so bright that nondestructive testing using fluorescence inspection can be performed outside in full daylight rather than having to use a darkened room. This makes it particularly useful for use in the field for liquid penetrant inspection of aircraft on the airfield, for example.

The output can be switched to white light and back either from the front panel or using a hand or foot switch. The unit accepts the same accessories as previous units, such as liquid lightguides.
