Smart charger optimises lead-acid batteries & doubles as PSU

When charging, microprocessor control implements a proven five-step sequence that begins with soft-start and boost profiles, and continues with top-up and float charging. A final pulse-charging phase maintains the battery’s state of charge safely until the charger is removed.

The charger has maximum charging current of 7A to allow fast charging of batteries for vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, quads, boats, jetskis, ATVs, snowmobiles, campervans and even small RVs. It is also suitable for household applications. Charging current is limited to 1.5A in small-battery mode to ensure optimum protection.

Further benefits of the smart charger include protection against short circuit or reverse-polarity connection, a memory function that retains the last-used charging program, and an external temperature sensor for compensation of the charging voltage. A handy flashlight is also included.

The charger is housed in a rugged enclosure to ensure reliable performance over a long lifetime. It is lightweight at under 1kg, and it comes with battery leads and clips – all packed in a convenient briefcase for easy storage and portability.
