Scorpion’s gas generator resolves power backup problem for world courier
Unable to install a diesel generator in its car park due to regulatory constraints, but needing to ensure its refrigeration system would continue to function in the event of a powercut, World Courier was faced with a conundrum on how to overcome the problem. The solution came with a gas powered generator system from integrated power solution company, Scorpion Power Systems, which has now been installed in World Courier’s cargo centre in Slough.
The world’s leading global speciality courier in the transportation of time or temperature sensitive biopharmaceutical consignments, World Courier already had its refrigeration system backed up by CO2 gas but wanted to install a secondary backup system. The company had been experiencing a number of powercuts, some of them prolonged, and being located at the end of Heathrow Airport’s runway also made it vulnerable to potential incidents that could result in loss of power.

“I read about Scorpion Power Systems gas generator sets and realised this was just what we wanted”, said Damian Jones, Health & Safety and Facilities Officer at World Courier UK. “Now we have the assurance of knowing that our customers’ consignments of specimens will be protected no matter how long a powercut occurs.”

The Scorpion 100kVA gas generator is specifically produced for the long-term protection of critical and sensitive equipment to insure against major electrical catastrophe. When the mains supply fails, or goes out of acceptable limits, the AMF panel disconnects the faulty mains supply, starts the Generator and connects it to the load, on mains return the AMF will transfer the load back to the mains and after a cool down time shut down the generator.

Supplied in a weatherproof and acoustic canopy, the Scorpion gas generator is fitted with a water jacket heater, which is designed to keep the engine at optimum temperature for fast and efficient start-up and rapid load acceptance.
Designed to work with LPG (liquid propane gas) and natural gas Scorpion’s gas generators do not require manual refuelling and offer a quieter, cleaner alternative to diesel power generators.

In recent years environmental issues have made gas a more popular choice. Gas cannot become contaminated and burns extremely cleanly. It gives very low emissions and freedom from light load running problems.

Established in Andover in 1982, Scorpion Power Systems has been at the forefront of producing high technology small, mid-range and large generators ranging from 0.5kVA to 2mVA and multiples thereof for prime power, standby power and CHP applications. Scorpion's customers include major industrial conglomerates, commercial establishments and government organisations
