Fujitsu presents new mainboard D3162-B µATX from the Extended Lifecycle Series

Fujitsu have added another version to their series of Extended Lifecycle boards for semi-industrial applications: D3162-B µATX is based on Intel’s Express Chipset Q77 and supports processors with LGA 1155 socket like Intel CoreTM i7, i5 and i3, the Intel Pentium G6xx, G8xx and Intel’s Celeron G4xx and G5xx series.

The extended lifecycle board is of particular interest for applications which require long lifetime, platform security and high reliability, for example as an alternative solution to desktop mainboards for medical applications or for video surveillance.

The Micro-ATX-Board D3162-B offers a wide range of possibilities for extensions and connections, such as 4 DIMM sockets, which can be equipped with 32 GB Single/Dual Channel Memory with DDR3 1066 (CL7), 1333 (CL9) or 1600 MHz (CL11), 1 PCI Express x16 (Gen3) slots, 1 PCI Express x16 (4 Lanes, Gen2) slots, 1 PCI Express x1 slot (Gen2) and 1 PCI slot for older cards (32Bit, 33MHz, Rev. 2.3). 2 internal USB 3.0 and 4 USB 2.0 connections as well as 2 external USB 3.0 und 6 USB 2.0 connections offer a high scalability. The SATA solution with 2 x SATA-600 und 4 x SATA-300 furthermore ensures an optimum data transfer rate.

Depending on the installed processor the Micro-ATX-Board is compatible with Intel’s HD Graphics DirectX 10.1 or DirectX 11. It contains 1 x Frontpanel HD Audio (9-Pin) and external connections such as LAN (RJ-45), Audio Mic In, Line In, Line Out, 1 x PS/2 for computer mouse and keypad, DVI-I and Display Port (VGA optional). The serial interface is RS232, FIFO and 16550 compatible.

Intel’s vPro technology ensures remote maintenance. Based on an Intel Gbe LAN controller with iAMT 8 support, remote maintenance can be performed independently from the operating system. For maintenance and error correction purposes, out-of-band-management technologies are capable of accessing a system which is switched off, experiencing a programme malfunction, or in stand-by mode. This significantly facilitates troubleshooting, especially with systems built into environments that are difficult to access, such as in digital signage or kiosk applications.

Further special features, such as the Hardware Watchdog, which monitors the system while the operating system is in service, ensure continuous operation. The system management chip is a standard feature which controls temperature levels and voltages and regulates the fan speed regardless of the status of the operating system. The Recovery BIOS is ready to reset a defective BIOS. The safe operation of the board is furthermore ensured through the EraseDisk function, guaranteeing the reliable erasure of sensitive information on the hard disk with various algorithms; the function is already implemented in the BIOS. This makes the time-consuming installation of a licenced erasure software unnecessary.

Further convenient features include the SilentFanConfig-Software (adjusts the cooling fans according to costumer-specific requirements) and the SilentDrive-Technology, guaranteeing a quiet-running hard disk.

The mainboard has an extended lifecycle of up to three years. Strict lifecycle management ensures that users are informed very early about possible changes to the product. Reliability is a crucial concern for Fujitsu, from product design to the choice of each component to comprehensive tests. These points make the board particularly suitable for 24/7 service in professional applications depending on high availability of systems.
