The key to maximising profits in the tipper haulage industry is to maximise the vehicle’s payload. For this reason body builders go to great lengths to ensure that a vehicle is as light as possible, while still having the strength to transport the loads required of it. Edbro is known throughout the industry for manufacturing the lightest cylinders on the market; its products provide weight savings which equate to thousands of pounds of increased profits over the vehicle’s service life.
Peter Smith, Sales and Marketing Director for Edbro, comments: “One of the most famous quotes to ever come out of UK manufacturing is Lotus’s Colin Chapman’s ‘Simplify, then add lightness’. This is the approach we take with our cylinders. They are designed to be lighter, faster and stronger than the competition; meaning that they can generate bigger profits.”
In order to maintain its position as industry leader, Edbro invests heavily in product design and development; both in terms of manufacturing new products and improving its existing range. Throughout its life the flagship CS range of cylinders has undergone many changes to ensure that it remains the lightest product of its kind on the market. Recent investments within our design and testing centres have allowed Edbro to squeeze even more savings from what is already the lightest on the market. The latest developments in cylinder design deliver savings of up to 6kg with most models benefiting from around a 5kg weight reduction.
In addition to the cylinder savings, and in our drive to explore all possibilities, a new light weight bracket range has been developed. These brackets offer a 20% weight saving compared to the present product, which in Kilo terms provides a saving of up to 10kgs.
In total the combined savings mean that many operators will benefit from a further 15kgs weight saving, ensuring that the CS range keeps its crown as the lightest product on the market. Using a typical Edbro CS17 cylinder the most popular model, total savings of between 40 and 95kgs are possible when compared to any other cylinders on the market.
Peter Smith continues: “In an industry such as haulage every kilo counts. We work tirelessly to reduce weight whilst maintaining strength and reliability. With the new CS design developments and the addition of the new brackets our CS range keeps it’s ‘fit and forget’ reliability and increases operators’ profits with every tipping cycle.”
