Lantronix has announced that CAS Corporation has selected MatchPort b/g for its CL5000 series product. A secure, embedded 802.11 b/g networking module, MatchPort b/g is a reliable networking solution for data sensitive, regulatory and IT-driven applications.

As a worldwide pioneer in the weighing industry, CAS has more than 70% market share in Korea, where the company is headquartered. Its weighing and measuring products are regularly used in industrial and commercial environments, with a large emphasis on major supermarkets, including Lotte Mart, part of the Lotte chain, and E-Mart, the largest discount retailer in Korea. These supermarkets are able to leverage CAS’ electronic scales and weighing systems in the beef department to quickly and easily provide specific details such as origin, grade and butchery, for example. Chosen for its system stability and robust functionality, Lantronix’ MatchPort b/g allows CAS customers to better manage the portability of its scale systems with wireless connectivity.

“Adding wireless functionality to our portfolio has been a strategic objective for several years,” said JK Chung, senior product engineer, CAS. “Having wireless scales is a tremendous asset to our customers in receiving real-time, up-to-date information about their inventory. The MatchPort b/g made it easy to network-enable our scales.”

MatchPort b/g is a programmable embedded device server that enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to add Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet networking to products. The server comes with Lantronix’ proprietary SmartRoam™ technology, which enables greater mobility and minimises lost connections with wireless towers by continuously tracking the signal strength of nearby access points and proactively managing a smooth, automatic transition to the access point with the strongest signal. MatchPort b/g also includes robust security technologies to protect data integrity and provide privacy for highly sensitive applications.

“Since 2007, we have been working with CAS to add wireless connectivity to several of its scales and systems. Wireless connectivity provides considerable advantages, primarily portability throughout the supermarket,” said Daryl Miller, Vice President of Engineering, Lantronix. “Lantronix works with customers, such as CAS, to provide network connectivity easily and cost-effectively, allowing companies to focus on their core competencies.”
