New Universal Lockout Kit Prevents Electrical Accidents
A new kit of universal, easy-to-fit Lockout/Tagout devices, which help prevent electrical accidents, is now available from IDEAL Industries.
Many accidents and even deaths are caused by the unexpected energisation of circuits, machinery or other electrical equipment. Implementing appropriate lockout/tagout procedures can prevent these types of accidents occurring. Indeed, current regulations such as the “Provision and Use of Work Equipment 1998, Section 19, Energy” and the “Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Regulation 13” require companies to have effective isolation policies in place. IDEAL’s Lockout/Tagout devices help to achieve compliance with these regulations.

IDEAL’s new Lockout/Tagout kit (part no. 44-985) comes in a convenient pouch that helps prevent damage or loss. The kit includes a range of universal lockout devices that are specially designed to fit most popular electrical isolators, including circuit breakers and miniature circuit breakers (MCBs).

Peter Halloway, UK Channel Manager at IDEAL INDUSTRIES comments: “Whilst different manufacturers of circuit breakers often provide a lockout device for their equipment, electricians cannot possibly afford the time or extra cost of purchasing these different locks for every type of breaker they come across on site. We’ve solved this by offering a universal kit that can be utilised on most popular devices – all in a handy-sized pouch.”

The kit includes a non-conductive Xenoy safety padlock, MCB pins in device for use on many breakers that have the mounting holes located on the flanges adjacent to the switch, and two variations of the grip-tight CB lockouts for use on some of the larger circuit breakers. There is also a steel, red plastic-coated safety lockout hasp, which enables more than one person to lockout a device or installation, an over-sized universal lockout device for breakers without built-in locking facility and a toggle MCB lock for MCBs without lock holes on the MCB flanges. Laminated plastic warning tags with non-fade lettering, nylon cable ties and permanent marker pen are also included.
