The text of the directive differentiates between guards (bars, doors, hatches and similar) and protective devices and movable guards. Under the condition that no or infrequent access is required during the working process then fixed guards are generally used.
EMKA products are expected to be of interest in the arena of fixed guards where the following requirements are defined:
Fixed guards must be fitted by systems that can be opened or removed only with tools.
Their fixing systems must remain attached to the guards or to the machinery when the guards are moved.
Where possible, guards must be incapable of remaining in-place without their fixings
Corresponding products within the EMKA program include a wide range of fixed or removable hinges and automatic or “slam” locking catches. Examples may be drawn from a variety of “slam cams”, slam locks, spring loaded lock cylinders, retractable handle and spring closure side panel locks.
In addition, EMKA’s range of ELM and Agent E remote electronic cabinet locking systems provide keyed security plus access, control and event logging. This not only enables users to meet the requirements of the Machinery Directive, but also addresses issues of “mischievous operators” by limiting access further only to approved personnel.
