ABLE announces Explosion-Proof One Series Pressure Switch
ABLE is pleased to announce the availability of the new One Series Ex d, an explosion-proof electronic pressure and temperature switch for Class I, Division 1 (Zone 1) hazardous locations. Based on the One Series 2W, 4W and 8W electronic design, the One Series Ex d 2X, 4X and 8X models provide an explosion-proof enclosure based on ABLE’s popular 120 Series mechanical switches. Using the same “footprint” as the 120 Series and adding programmable digital electronics, the One Series Ex d is ideally suited for the rigors of critical areas classified as harsh and hazardous. The conduit openings, sensor port and mounting holes are in the same locations as the 120 Series for easy installation.
The One Series Ex d includes cULus, ATEX and IECEx approvals for Class I, Division 1 (Zone 1) areas. These triple agency approvals provide an instrument that is ready and certified by third-party testing for use in hazardous locations in many parts of the world, including N. America, Australia and Europe. The Russian approval Gosgortechnadzor will be added to the product at a later date, to be announced.

The current economic conditions and delays with projects are providing opportunities for the One Series as a cost-effective alternative to transmitters used for trip point/on-off service. Assuming 20-25% of transmitters used for a project are allocated to trip points, the cost savings to move to the One Series can help reduce the project instrumentation costs, and help satisfy clients who are looking to save money and keep the projects moving forward.

Throughout industry, new and existing plants are required to design standardized instrument safety into their control schemes. With superior self-diagnostics and faster response than a transmitter, the One Series makes an ideal safety switch and has been evaluated by Exida, LLC. Customers now have the ability to incorporate the One Series into their Safety Instrumented System designs using the data provided in the FMEDA and SIL Verification reports prepared by Exida.

The installed base of mechanical switches is a natural target for the One Series Ex d. We estimate that approximately 4 million switches have been installed in the past 25 years, and are now due for replacement. Instrumentation upgrades provide an excellent opportunity for the One Series Ex d.
