Oil & Gas Systems has purchased ABLE McCrometer V-Cone meters for their gas metering skid designed for the new Oselvar Production Module. The module is due to be installed on the BP Operated Ula Platform and the decision to purchase the ABLE McCrometer V-Cone meters was reached by BP, Aker Offshore Partnership and SGC.

The V-Cone flow meters will be used to meter the produced gas, with 2 x 100% meter runs. In view of the required turndown, each meter will consist of two V-Cone flow meters, one for high flow measurement and one for low flow measurement. Provisions for spot sampling is also included downstream of the outlet header.

The Oselvar field was discovered in the 1990s. It is located in the PL274 license and is operated by DONG E&P Norge AS. Appraisal wells on Oselvar were drilled in 2007/2008 to investigate the reservoir's deliverability and to acquire the fluid characterization. The appraisal well was drilled to a total depth of 10,787 feet (3,288 meters) and stopped in sediments of Early Paleocene age. The reservoir thickness and the expected reservoir characteristics were confirmed, which established Oselvar contained oil and associated gas.

The Oselvar field base case plan is for a Subsea development with 3 horizontal production wells, the Subsea Facilities will terminate at the riser bottom. Production start is estimated to be in Q4 2011. Control and chemicals will be provided by the Ula host installation via an integrated electro-hydraulic umbilical. The well stream will arrive at the Ula facilities at pressure of approx. 30 bar and temperature of minimum 25°C. The Oselvar production will be processed at Ula and the gas will be either re-injected or exported via UGIP pipeline to Gyda and Ekofisk facilities.

Although orifice meters and ultrasonic meters were possible options for this measurement, the project intended to use V-Cone meters due to BP’s experience on other similar platforms. ABLE was approached because they were project approved and had the ability to supply in duplex SS to NORSOK specifications. Along with the minimal straight pipe run requirements needed by the V-Cone, this choice was paramount due to the combination of the harsh environment and the process conditions.

The meters are the primary measuring device on the gas skid produced by Oil & Gas Systems and deemed to be the most important piece of equipment. The DP measurement derived from the meters is transmitted to the flow computers and, along with pressure, temperature and other measurements, is used to accurately calculate the flow through the metering skid.

The ABLE McCrometer V-Cone flow meter is an advanced differential pressure instrument, which is ideal for use with liquid, steam or gas media in rugged conditions where accuracy, low maintenance and cost are important

With its DP built-in flow conditioning design, the V Cone is especially useful in tight-fit and retrofit installations in which the long runs of straight pipe required by Orifice Plates, Venturi Tubes, and other technologies are either impractical or unavailable.

The VCone is designed for today’s most challenging oil / gas production, chemical, food & beverage, plastics, pharmaceuticals, district HVAC, textile, power and water & wastewater applications. The V Cone is a better solution. It combines exceptional performance, low maintenance and long life for superior value.

Key features include:

· Flow Meter accuracy to +/- 0.5%
· Flow Meter repeatability to +/- 0.1%
· Wide flow range
· Pre-conditions flow
· Requires minimal straight pipe
· Low head loss
· Low maintenance
· No recalibration
· Long life
