Italian-built lathe combines compactness with versatility
A new, CNC turn-mill centre called Quattro B436Y2, with two Y-axis tool turrets and two opposed C-axis spindles, has been introduced by the Italian firm, Biglia, whose sole sales and service agent for the UK and Ireland is Whitehouse Machine Tools, Kenilworth. Quattro lathes have been produced since 1990 and are now in their third generation. They are especially well suited to machining of tough alloys due to their sturdiness and high power.

Tool life tripled with MAPAL’s new cutting material
MAPAL has developed a range of CVD-coated cutting materials that increase tool life by up to 300% for boring operations in cast metals, including GJL, GJV and GJS. The new HC720, HC725, HC730 and HC735 cutting materials incorporate an extremely heat resistant alpha-aluminium oxide coating with excellent adhesion characteristics, and differ only in the carbide substrate used.
