Photo competition deletes out-dated image of engineering
A new photography competition has been launched by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), in a bid to challenge misconceptions of engineering and to demonstrate the ingenuity, breadth and vibrancy of the profession. The IET International Engineering Photography Competition is open to any photograph of an engineering-related subject that captures the dynamic, creative and progressive face of engineering and engineers today.

Older & disabled people are missing out on smart phone technology

The benefits of taking action to encourage more older and disabled people to use apps to improve their public transport experience are highlighted in a recent report. Meeting the Needs of Older and Disabled Travellers, published by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and ITS UK, highlights that over 80% of the over 60s would not use journey planning websites, apps or text messages that can give them valuable travel information to significantly improve their journey. This is a missed opportunity and the report calls for a fresh approach to developing and marketing these technologies to this group according to the company.

The dangers of fake wiring publications

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has urged all electrical professionals to ensure that they are using genuine copies of its current IET Wiring Regulations. The call comes as the IET has been made aware of a number of counterfeit copies of its publications for sale through various channels. It warns that following misinformation in these fake copies could be devastating for electrical professionals and the general public at large, with missing or corrupted information potentially leading to unsafe work being carried out which could result in fire, electric shock or even death in the most extreme cases.

Champions head to World Lego final

Champions head to World Lego final
A team of students has won the UK final of the IET’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL), and will now compete in the World FLL Festival in the USA. 35 teams from across the UK showcased their skills on Sunday; they were judged on their ability to design, build and programme a LEGO MINDSTORMS robot; their presentation and research skills; and how well they cooperate with each other and their competitors.
