Maintenance Becomes Less Of A Grind At Flour Manufacturer
Allied Mills, part of Associated British Foods, has been able to turn its perception of maintenance on its head thanks to in depth analyses undertaken by SKF, the world’s leading knowledge engineering company. Indeed, as opposed to being seen as a necessary evil, maintenance is now viewed by Allied Mills as a fully integrated element of the company’s business effectiveness model. Perhaps most importantly, the implementation of SKF’s maintenance programme has meant that the ratio of unplanned vs. planned maintenance at the company has been completely reversed, with planned work now accounting for 90% of the total, while significant reductions have also been made in Allied Mills’ stores value and stock holding costs.

SKF, the knowledge engineering company, has been working with British racing car manufacturer Ginetta to help develop and manufacture the UK’s first multiplatform road and race car. SKF’s strong knowledge in automotive applications, global technical support and product range were just two of the reasons the company won the contract to provide specialised products and support services for the new Ginetta G40. As well as supplying wheel bearing units, SKF worked closely with Ginetta to provide technical support, including CAD modelling, right from the beginning of the project.

SKF signs a long term contract with Valeo for supply to the new i-StARS
SKF, has signed a three-year contract worth around €3.5 million with Valeo to supply SKF Rotor Positioning Bearings for the new i-StARS, Valeos stop-start system. i-StARS automatically cuts off the vehicle’s engine when slowing down under 8 km/h, for instance, when stopping for a red light. The system enables further reduction in CO2 emissions and even less fuel consumption compared to the first generation StARS.
