SKF has developed an innovative 3-in-1 dryer system that removes oil, contaminants and water from compressed air. The compact SFD (Separator Filter Dryer) system can treat a compressed air stream directly from the tank, eliminating the need for after coolers, additional external filters and other equipment, or alternatively be mounted on small air compressors or at the point of use. The SFD provides a reliable and versatile drying solution, able to accommodate a range of air system requirements and flow rates.

SKF has launched its latest generation of SKF ConCentra roller bearing units, which can be mounted 20 minutes faster than conventional split housings, saving costs both initially in mounting and later in maintenance. Additionally, the units enable more accurate mounting, resulting in high bearing performance and longer bearing life. Subsequently, this contributes to improved performance in manufacturing machinery and ancillary equipment.

SKF, the leading knowledge engineering company, has developed a hydraulic lubrication pump specifically for use with hydraulic hammers. The HS04 can be fitted to the hammer to provide effective lubrication even if the tool is uncoupled and moved from one machine to another. The hydraulically operated pump is robust enough for even the most aggressive environments and is quick and simple to maintain, keeping operating costs down.

SKF has launched a dynamic new range of modular linear profile rail guides, designed for use in a wide range of demanding industrial applications. The new LLT profile rail guides have been developed to combine high operating speeds with heavy load capacities, while offering excellent rigidity, repeatability and accuracy from a system that can easily be configured to meet the needs of both OEMs and end users.

The latest generation of oil-injection shaft couplings from SKF enable stronger, more compact shaft to shaft connections to be achieved quickly and simply. The OKCX couplings feature 50% higher torque transmission capacity than conventional designs, providing a safe and cost effective way to reduce the size or increase the torque capacity of your shaft connections.

SKF has developed an Integrated Equipment Reliability programme specifically tailored to the needs of coal plants. The IER programme provides a flexible framework that allows maintenance to be planned and carried out more efficiently, reducing costs and increasing the availability and safety of equipment.

SKF is helping SAPPI Fine Paper Europe GmbH in Germany to improve efficiency in paper production through an ongoing programme of condition monitoring.

SKF has developed a new bearing solution for the latest environmentally friendly micro-hybrid cars. Its new magnetic sensor bearing is part of Valeo's StARS (Starter Alternator Reversible System) micro-hybrid system, which enables vehicle manufacturers to reduce the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of their cars without the need for any radical changes in the engine architecture.

SKF has developed a total fan shaft solution that can optimise the performance and increase the service life of industrial fan applications. The solution comprises SKF’s unique self aligning bearing arrangement as well as sealing, lubrication and condition monitoring technology, enabling end users to optimise productivity levels and minimise maintenance costs.

SKF is launching the SKF Multilog On-line System DMx, an innovative vibration monitor that has been certified as intrinsically safe; at Offshore Europe 2009 on Stand 1472. The system conforms to the API-670 standard, and is ATEX and IECEx certified, making it ideal for use with critical machinery such as gas and steam turbines, generators, motors, pumps, fans and compressors in both non-hazardous and hazardous Oil and Gas applications.

SKF has signed a five year contract with Cambridge University Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy to set up the SKF University Technology Centre on Steels on campus in Cambridge. The initial contract is for five years and will pioneer research, directed by SKF, on steels and heat treatment associated with advanced bearing technology.

An innovative new Electronic Parking Brake for tractors and agricultural vehicles has been launched by SKF. The new hybrid system is based on a mechanical emergency brake combined with a patented SKF intelligent electro-mechanical actuator, which operates on a conventional transmission parking brake. This system provides a number of important benefits, improving braking efficiency and operator safety, while reducing overall emissions and operating costs.

During April 2009 the SKF Group working in cooperation with the Czech police authorities made a raid and confiscated over 30 tons of counterfeit SKF bearings at a non-authorized dealer in the North-East region of the Czech Republic. In addition, products from other bearing manufacturers were confiscated.

SKF will be relocating its Super Precision Bearings manufacturing unit from Stonehouse in the UK, to its existing production centres in Villar Perosa and Torino, Italy.

The latest VOGEL dry lubrication technology from SKF is enabling line efficiency to be optimised safely and cost effectively across a diverse range of food and beverage applications. A dry film of lubricant is distributed by a central system, minimising lubricant consumption and eliminating the cost and operational implications of using water-based lubricants.

A partnership and technical cooperation of more than 60 years was celebrated by SKF together with Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro by signing the Formula One contract on February 24, 2009. The contract is valid for 3 years and this agreement continues to strengthen the long lasting relationship between the two companies.

SKF has developed a handheld endoscope that allows users to assess the condition of difficult to access equipment simply and quickly. Unlike more conventional endoscopes, the TKES 1 incorporates an LCD screen and can display and record both photos and video for more user friendly, effective condition monitoring.

SKF has recognised Team Rewinds of Gateshead UK, a company specialising in the repair of industrial electric motors, as an SKF Certified Rebuilder. This respected certification programme is awarded to electric motor repair service companies that meet SKF’s exacting standards for repair expertise.

SKF has launched the third generation version of its successful wind turbine condition monitoring system. SKF WindCon 3.0 is designed to enable wind farms to extend turbine maintenance intervals, manage resources more effectively, and avoid costly downtime.

On show for the first time in the UK at this year’s MAINTEC industrial maintenance and asset management exhibition, the new Machine Condition Advisor (MCA) from SKF, is an easy-to-use, ergonomically designed, handheld device designed to simplify machine maintenance and prevent costly failures.
