LINEAR CHAIN DRIVE MEETS TIGHT DESIGN CRITERIA

LINEAR CHAIN DRIVE MEETS TIGHT DESIGN CRITERIA
Space constraint was the main factor that governed the choice of drive system for an automated sliding door mechanism installed at the restored East Lancashire Railway Castlecroft Goods Warehouse; in which the new Bury Transport Museum is located. However, not only did the chosen system need to be extremely compact, but also sufficiently robust to drive a door weight of 2000 kg for a distance of four metres. Two space-saving but powerful products manufactured by Framo Morat were recommended as a combined solution by sole UK distributor, R. A. Rodriguez.

COMPACT ACTUATOR FOR RELIABLE FILM WINDING

COMPACT ACTUATOR FOR RELIABLE FILM WINDING
When bpi.films needed to replace worn out and obsolete actuators at the end of a process line they were faced with a few problems. Their replacements needed to match the fixing centres and diameter of the failed mechanisms and be sufficiently compact so as not to impinge on the nearby drive system. The Framo Mini 3 actuator from R. A. Rodriguez proved to be the ideal solution and was also available on a very short lead time. Within ten days the process was restored to full automation.

SLEWING RING BEARINGS, GREAT AND SMALL

SLEWING RING BEARINGS, GREAT AND SMALL
When would you specify a slewing ring or turntable bearing? The typical response would be when the application calls for a heavy-section bearing with a large-diameter and relatively low precision. Whilst this is correct it’s not the complete picture. Slewing ring bearings are no longer limited to large, heavy duty applications. Their versatility is now boosting performance in smaller designs as well and KAYDON bearings from R. A. Rodriguez are leaders in this field.

Robot helps glass maker to keep prices keen

Robot helps glass maker to keep prices keen
Gern Glas - Denmark’s largest manufacturer of sheet glass and mirrors – is adopting automation to give itself a competitive edge on pricing and to protect its volume business in both home and export markets. One of the company’s recent purchases, a Universal Robot, is certainly proving to be a shrewd investment. “This is a completely different kind of industrial robot which is inexpensive, mobile, easy to use and flexible,” explained Technical Manager Glenn Larsen. “The robot is mounted on a trolley so we can move it to wherever we can put it to best use. And we don’t have to pay expensive consultants to re-programme it for new tasks.”
