Atlas Copco Compressors has launched a new range of retrofit energy recovery kits for its GA11-90 rotary screw compressor range which enable up to 94% of the energy from wasted compression heat to be recovered.

The energy-saving technology features of Atlas Copco’s ES130V master controller have qualified the unit for the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme and inclusion in the Energy Technology List.

Atlas Copco has announced that its established professional range of WEDA submersible pumps and accessories will now be offered through the Portable Air Division to complement its portfolio of compressors and generators. Designed for the mining, quarrying, construction, rental and defence industry sectors, WEDA pumps are acclaimed for performance, reliability and ease of use within the most demanding applications.

Atlas Copco has launched the latest edition of its comprehensive Compressed Air Manual. The manual contains 136 pages of essential reading for businesses that need the latest information about compressed air technology. As both a textbook for newcomers and a reference book for more experienced users, the 7th edition of the manual addresses the theoretical and practical issues faced by anyone working with compressed air on a day-to-day basis and provides products and systems facts, data, advice and tips for optimum performance.

A major feature of the Atlas Copco Compressors stand at The Energy Event 2010 will be its unique Carbon Zero range of air compressors. These compressors are equipped with advanced heat recovery systems capable of recovering 100% of electrical energy input. Other energy-efficient solutions on show will include the redesigned, small footprint GA 5-15 VSD compressor range, the latest additions to the FD family of refrigerant dryers and details of free health check air audits.

The main conclusion of a technical white paper published by Atlas Copco’s Oil-free Air Division, which explains the differences between screw technology and the traditional ‘Roots’ type lobe technology, is that the introduction of air blowers using internal compression instead of external compression sets a new standard for energy efficiency in the low-pressure market.

Europe’s leading optical storage media manufacturer, Sony DADC UK Limited has recently installed a new energy-efficient compressor system in its West Sussex plant and is now taking significant steps towards recovering the energy from the compressor.

On stand H30 at IWEX 2010, Atlas Copco Compressors will be exhibiting the latest technology in blowers, compressors and generators designed for water-related applications and demonstrating its range of innovative solutions specifically developed to meet the need for oil-free, low-pressure process air.

Atlas Copco was originally contacted for its proposals for a compressed air supply by process engineering consultants Otto Simon Ltd, who were assisting Ascot Environmental with the project. The Dargavel installation now comprises two network-linked GA37+ 8bar, full-feature, oil-injected rotary screw compressors with integrated air treatment and downstream filtration, together with an OSC600 oil/water condensate separator, an EWD 330 electronic condensate drain, a 3,000 litre air receiver, plus an ES4i integrated sequence controller.

Atlas Copco Compressors’ has launched its latest air treatment development, the QDT Activated Carbon Tower filter, designed to deliver the best air quality available yet from an oil injected compressor. This advanced filter system uses activated carbon to adsorb oil vapour from downstream compressed air to achieve and exceed Class 1 air purity, according to the ISO 8573-1 standard.

Atlas Copco is delivering an energy efficiency workshop and exhibiting at the Carbon Trust’s Technology Convention at the N.E.C in January 2010. The Air & Temperature Control Technology Convention takes place on the 20th January 2010 at The Gallery Suite, N.E.C, Birmingham.

Atlas Copco Compressors has appointed Nigel Smith as manager of its Aftermarket Compressor Technique Service division, and Paul O’Neill as manager of its Oil-Free Air division, both based at the company’s headquarters in Hemel Hempstead.

New compressed air generation and nitrogen production units from Atlas Copco have been installed at Haith’s birdfoods production plant in Grimsby as the company looks to improve its energy efficiency and increase the shelf life of its packaged products. The wide variety of Haith’s packs of bird food, and the familiar face of Bill Oddie, are on display in approximately 1500 pet stores and supermarkets across the country.
