The possibility of using the some of the world’s harshest landscapes to produce food, fresh water and clean energy is definitely possible and is proven with the recent opening of the Sahara Forest Project (SFP) launch station outside Aqaba, the Jordan port city. Last month, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon attended the ceremony to mark the official opening of the SFP which began in 2012 and is part funded by the EU and the Norwegian government.

  Crane and hoist manufacturer, Street Crane, has supplied and installed overhead cranes at Fanuc UK’s new 107,000ft2 purpose-built headquarters at Ansty Park in Coventry. Fanuc builds around 6,000 robots, 125,000 servomotors, 84,000 servo amplifiers, and 25,000 CNC controllers every month to serve the wave of demand within manufacturing for ‘fourth industrial revolution’ technology.

Scum removal efficiency improved during activated sludge processing
An innovative, high performance surface scum removal system for use in activated sludge processes that uses a collector arm to direct the scum towards a dipper has been developed by A&J Fabtech. Removed continually in small batches, scum presents few problems in sludge processing operations. However, if it is allowed to build up it can become an issue. There are several existing procedures for dealing with scum, although there is room for improvement in them all.
