Pumping station renovation improves flood defences
Peakirk pumping station on the River Welland has received a full renovation from ECS Engineering Services, on behalf of the Environment Agency, which will significantly boost the effectiveness of flood defences in the area. Work carried out has included the refurbishment of the station’s pointing doors; the installation of an adjustable stoplog and automated weed screen; a renovation of the pumping station plus an inspection and overhaul of existing pumps on-site.

As part of the continued work on Colwick Sluice, ECS has been awarded a contract to repaint the structure on the River Trent to improve durability and reduce corrosion. The project forms part of a wider initiative conducted on behalf of the Environment Agency, with the aim of improving safety and operational efficiency at the installation.

  When three Archimedes screw pumps at the inlet of Severn Trent Water’s Mansfield Sewage Treatment Works required replacement, NMCNomenca contacted ECS Engineering Services to source and install new pumps. As the exclusive UK service agent for Landustrie Archimedes screw pumps, ECS was able to replace the screws to bolster the water treatment infrastructure at the site.

Extending its agreement with ECS Engineering Services for the supply, installation and repair of Archimedes screw pumps, Scottish Water is one of the largest operators of this type of equipment in the UK. The original Agreement was for one year and covered the supply of a complete service for screw pump provision, maintenance, repair and refurbishment, as does the extension.

Awarded a contract by Scottish Canals, ECS Engineering Services has been given the job to replace four lock gates at Kytra Lock on the Caledonian Canal. One of most naturally appealing stops along this stretch of water, the work at Kytra constitutes part of a systematic replacement of infrastructure along waterways in Scotland.

Even though Christmas has been and gone, the season of sending letters to the North Pole has certainly passed, however ECS Engineering Services has received a postcard from the other end of the Earth. The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) have extended warm thanks for its help with a massive project to relocate Halley VI Research Station 23km to a different part of the Brunt ice shelf, and for supplying high specification, bespoke steel fabrications over many years.

Nine radial gates have been fabricated by ECS Engineering Services for use at the Environment Agency’s Romney Weir facility. Designed to operate on the weir for at least 60 years and minimise operating costs, the gates add to already extensive renovation work carried out in the area by ECS.

UK adjustable stop logs installed at Peakirk Pumping Station
ECS Engineering Services has recently completed the installation of one of the country’s first adjustable stop logs at Peakirk Pumping Station. Located on the River Welland, ECS installed the stop log as part of an overhaul of the existing pumping station on behalf of the Environment Agency and Anglian Water. The new stop log will aid work in the area by offering a barrier to water flow while maintenance is carried out on certain facilities.

The contract to redevelop and refurbish the Environment Agency’s Peakirk Pumping Station, near Peterborough, at the junction of the Rivers Welland and Folly has been won by ECS Engineering Services. The aims of the project are to improve the whole drainage of the surrounding area and provide improved flood prevention capabilities.

River Thames receives makeover with environment investment
The refurbishment of Temple Lock on the River Thames has been completed by ECS Engineering Services, as part of the Environment Agency’s £1.3m investment. The project included replacement of the lock gate sluice valves, and timber fenders as well as installation of two new access ladders and refurbishment of the lock doors themselves.
