Pressure Sensors with CANopen Interface
With the series PDRJ and PDAJ, Baumer’s product segment Process Instrumentation offers rugged pressure sensors that communicate via the CANopen protocol and can measure a relative or absolute pressure from -1 up to 1000 bar. In the operating temperature range of -25°C to 85°C, the maximal total error is at 1% FSR for the T-class and only 0,3% FSR for the S-class. The measuring devices are suitable for complex systems over big distances or security-relevant applications like engine test benches requiring a high accuracy.
The temperature behaviour of a pressure sensor is one of the most important criteria relating to its measuring accuracy. Characteristic line declarations referring to the ambient temperature are not very useful if in an application the pressure has to be measured at temperatures from 20 up to 70°C. Therefore, the possible application field of a sensor depends on the total error. The CANopen transmitters reach a total error of 0.3% (S-class) and 1% (T-class) over the indicated ranges of full scale (FSR) and operating temperature. Therefore, the customer can calculate the maximum error of measurement due to the sensors’ good temperature stability.

The sensors based on thin-film technology communicate via the CANopen protocol and are especially suitable for challenging embedded environments like agricultural machines or cranes as well as for hydropower stations, waste water treatment plants, refineries and other plants in which several sensors are switched over big distances. The overload limit can reach the double of the nominal pressure. The burst pressure is about the fourfold of the nominal pressure. The T-class sensors are also available in a more compact housing offering an eightfold burst pressure security.
