Pressure Gauge MEX3 with Robust Housing for Rolling Stock
The pressure gauge MEX3 offered by Baumer’s product segment Process Instrumentation is now available in a particularly robust version for heavy duty applications. It has been developed especially for the pressure control in hydraulic parking brakes in trains. In order to protect the sensing element against shock and the impact of stones during operation, the device is mounted in an aluminium housing equipped with a polycarbonate window.
When rolling stock has to go to the depot or a maintenance area, the pneumatic brake system is switched to a hydraulic brake which is used for parked railed vehicles. The MEX3 is a pressure gauge made of stainless steel, and the reinforced version with aluminium housing meets the challenging requirements for railway applications. The pressure range is between 0 and 250 bar. The ideal range for the filling of the hydraulic system is between 80 and 90 bar. The device is equipped with a dual fitting: one is used for the connection to the hydraulic system, and the other – a Minimess stainless steel fitting – allows the refilling of the hydraulic system. The accuracy class is 1.6.

The MEX3 version reinforced with aluminium housing for shock protection has been developed by Baumer especially for a Swiss railway company looking for a robust device for the pressure control in the hydraulic braking system in their rolling stock.
