Tool Setting Is Faster And Easier With MAPAL's New Cassette
Users of MAPAL reamers and fine boring tools with HX indexable blades no longer need to manually set the back taper on the blades, thanks to a new and innovative cassette design that inherently takes account of back taper. Not only does this significantly reduce the time needed for tool setting, it also means that different back tapers can be selected simply by changing the cassette.
MAPAL tools with guide-pad technology and multi-cutting edge HX indexable blades are ideally suited for precision boring in castings and steel, and they produce consistently excellent results, especially in terms of circularity, cylindrical form and surface finish. With six cutting edges per indexable blade, these versatile tools are also exceptionally cost effective.

The new cassette design for the tools is combined with a very simple adjusting system that accommodates the indexable blades without play and, because of the accurate guidance of the cassette on a precision pin, ensures that the back taper remains unchanged even when the diameter setting is adjusted. In addition, cassette design ensures provides a triple surface contact in each of the directions that forces act, eliminating the risk of tipping or settling.

Since the new cassette allows the same standardised indexable blades to be used in tools with different back tapers, fewer variants are needed in the production area, and quantities required can be combined. A further benefit is that in cases of wear or damage to a blade seat due to a blade fracture, the cassette can easily be replaced – an expensive repair to the complete tool is unnecessary.

The simplified diameter adjustment of the new tools is particularly beneficial for multi-stage tools and multi-blade micromachining tools, where setting time is greatly reduced and reliable setting, to micro-metre accuracy, is assured, resulting in enhanced process reliability.
