New insert grade for finish-machining HRSA parts
Cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant is extending its Sialon ceramic grade CC6060 range to support the turning and milling of heat resistant super alloys (HRSAs). These latest introductions to the product programme include inserts for semi-finish to finish machining.
Sialon grade CC6060 is optimized for productivity benefits when it comes to larger diameter components and longer lengths of cut. With its excellent notch wear resistance this grade also provides the confidence to machine at higher depths of cut than comparable ceramic grades and is able to cope with higher feed rates.

Sialon is a mixture of silicon nitride and aluminium oxide, giving the best chemical stability to reduce notch wear in demanding operations. Sandvik Coromant says Sialon provides the capability to run at 4-6 times the speed of conventional carbide inserts.

The newly extended range of semi-finishing and finishing inserts is particularly suited to machining tough materials such as HRSAs, especially operations like turning big diameter parts with long cut lengths, or milling profiles or pockets – rolling in and out of cut.
