More Blades Mean Higher Feed Rates with MAPAL Reamers
More cutting teeth for a given tool diameter, allowing much higher feed rates to be achieved, is the key benefit of the new range of FeedPlus multicut reamers from MAPAL. By using a completely new design principle for these groundbreaking tools, MAPAL has created more space for blades, which means, for example, that it is possible to have ten teeth on a 14 mm tool, compared with just six teeth on a conventional reamer of this size.
In addition to supporting higher feed rates, the increased number of teeth on the new FeedPlus reamers also means that tool life is extended and bore quality, particularly in terms of ovality, is enhanced. The improvement in bore quality is a direct result of the increased number & unique geometry of radial lands, which are responsible for controlling the tool during the machining process.

The new FeedPlus reamers are also particularly economical in their usage rate for costly cutting materials, as they incorporate MAPAL’s fine adjustment system. This allows the diameter of the tool to be set with micron precision, which help further to extended tool life. In addition, this system makes it possible to expand the reamer head prior to reconditioning so that the reground tool offers the same accuracy and performance as the original.

While previous MAPAL versions of FeedPlus reamers were particularly suitable for machining through holes, the new types are also well suited for use in blind holes. The new reamers can optionally be supplied in the form of HFS replaceable heads, a proven system that makes them even easier to handle and even more cost effective.
