Heavy Duty Chlorine-free Cutting Oil Ideal for Cost Effective Machining of Titanium
Corrosion resistance and high strength to weight ratio make titanium and its alloys popular for a whole host of products from dental implants to aircraft parts and its use is increasing. This however is a metal that can be difficult to machine economically as it causes rapid tool wear. The problem is exacerbated by numerous titanium parts being machined from solid. So high stock removal rates only serve to put greater demand on the tooling.
Cutting oils with a high degree of lubrication have been developed specifically for this purpose. However many contain extreme pressure additives that are not suitable for all applications and indeed are classified as being environmentally hazardous. To overcome these problems Master Chemical Europe has developed a new semi-synthetic neat cutting oil. Although specifically formulated for machining titanium it is also ideal for use on steel, stainless steel and yellow metals.

TRIM® OM303 has excellent tool life properties but importantly this is achieved without the use of chlorine or active sulphur EP additives. This is also critically important for manufacturers of titanium aircraft components. Any residue of these lubricants left on such components can, at high temperatures, cause thermal stress potentially resulting in cracking. This new introduction from Master Chemical Europe is therefore of considerable interest to this sector as it ensures that economical machining and workpiece integrity are no longer mutually exclusive.

In trials this product has proven its value in difficult operations on stainless steels and corrosion resistant aerospace alloys. It is particularly suited to milling, drilling, thread rolling and thread form tapping. Other characteristics include low odour, low foaming and low misting making it suitable for aggressive operations.

TRIM® OM303 is the latest in a long line of products developed by Master Chemical Europe specifically at the request of its European customers. To continue and increase the pace of this work the company has recently made a substantial investment in brand new laboratory facilities at its headquarters building in Needham Market.
