Flanged pipeline connections are maintenance-free

The introduction of the ElectroJoint Monolithic Isolation Joint (MIJ) has been introduced by Garlock Pipeline Technologies (GPT), as a maintenance-free alternative to flanged pipeline connections, appropriately sized and priced for gas distribution lines. The ElectroJoint MIJ replaces bolts, sleeves and washers with a coated, sealed cathodic protection system to eliminate corrosion, and is secured with two butt welds.

GPT Global Product Manager Tim Hurley said: “Monolithic isolation joints effectively prevent potential installation error on bolted joints.”

Hurley added: “There are dozens of ways human error can lead to failure over the lifecycle of the pipe, creating potentially catastrophic results. The new ElectroJoint MIJ offers a rigorously tested, value-priced alternative to flanged connections for smaller diameter pipes including those used in gas distribution projects.”

The ElectroJoint is available in ANSI Classes 150# up to NPS 8, and 300#/600# up to NPS 6. The integrity of each weld is verified utilising Magnetic Particle Inspection and all ElectroJoints are evaluated for electrical resistance and dielectric strength. Each MIJ also undergoes a hydrostatic test at 1.5x MAOP in accordance with ASME B31.3.

GPT’s existing ElectroStop MIJ product line will remain the industry standard in demanding and large diameter gas transmission pipeline applications, while the new ElectroJoint will provide a lower-priced alternative for dimensionally smaller and less demanding applications.
