The EPI flowmeter measures the fluid volume of highly viscous media such as syrup, oil or concentrated detergents. It is extremely precise and enables exact volume dosages over a wide temperature range with very low-pressure loss. By choosing VICTREX PEEK polymer as a substitute for metal and fluoropolymers such as ECTFE, PFA, PVDF, Digmesa has been able to realize more cost-efficient production of the flowmeters and considerable weight reduction. VICTREX PEEK polymer is used in the hollow bodies, epicycloidal vanes, vane covers, and casing of the flowmeters.
Because the areas of operation for the EPI flowmeters are extremely diverse, they must display excellent dimensional stability under mechanical and thermal load as well as a high level of resistance to wear-and-tear that may be caused by contact with the media being measured. In addition to a large flow at low-pressure loss, excellent chemical resistance to the different media is also required. VICTREX PEEK polymer can meet all of these criteria due to its high dimensional stability, exceptional mechanical properties at high temperature ranges, as well as its outstanding sliding-friction and food safety compliance.
In the food and beverage industry, providing a germ-free environment with clean room conditions is non-negotiable. All unfilled VICTREX PEEK polymer grades, as well as some reinforced grades, meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for food contact. The polymer also offers excellent hydrolysis resistance. This is very important as equipment used in food processing must be regularly cleaned and sterilized.
