The Techflex range has an ace up its sleeve

A very important step that is sometimes overlooked is the element of protecting cables and wires, and it’s a vital factor in helping safeguard the integrity and reliability of electrical systems. To support this, Optimas’ Components Division offers the Techflex range of braided cable sleeves, which provides end users with aesthetic, durable and specialised solutions for protecting cables from the wear and tear of everyday life.

Optimas offers a vast range of c-class components and fasteners, relying on a global parts portfolio that provides end users with unrivalled choice. This breadth of choice extends to the Techflex braided cable sleeve range, which is designed to support demanding industries such as automotive, manufacturing, defence and aerospace. With Techflex gathering over 50 years’ experience in providing such components – quality and performance is guaranteed.

Braided cable sleeves deliver an economical cable protection solution. In application, a sleeve offers increased abrasion protection for cables if they experience movement. Furthermore, housing cables provides improved aesthetics, which can be of benefit for applications where wires and hoses are visible, such as on motorcycles.

The Techflex range differentiates itself from typical cable sleeves in the breadth of choice and specialisation available. End users can specify a wide range of colours and sizes to suit application demands, promoting a tailormade approach. All variants offer a high resistance to abrasion and ease of installation, the latter of which allows end users to retrofit the sleeve to existing systems with minimal disturbance.

While all sleeves in the range offer easy installation, some models go even further. The Flexo Clean Cut Fray Resistant Braided Sleeving is designed to resist fraying when cut with scissors, offering simplified installation compared to using a hot knife. This is achieved thanks to an increased sleeve braid density. The Insultherm Tru-Fit also offers these benefits, but is specialised to support high temperature and low voltage applications – constituting a suitable selection for use in home appliances. It also features a fibreglass construction which provides a high resistance to most organic solvents.

For general applications, end users have access to multiple options. The Flexo PET offers expansion up to 150% and a resistance to UV, petrol, engine chemicals and cleaning solvents – which has seen the sleeve adopted in the industrial, electronics, marine and automotive sectors. For increased flexibility, end users can rely on the F6 Woven Wrap Slit Tubular Harness or the Flexo F6 wrap; respectively offering a split construction and wrap application for easy installation.

Flame resistant models can be specified within the range. The Flexo Flame Retardant Braided Sleeving offers an improved flammability rating, an increased resistance to petrol and engine chemicals and an expansion capacity of up to 150%. In addition, the Flexo Clean Cut FR offers the easy installation characteristics of the base model, but with flame retardance.

Further specialised sleeves include the Flexo Tinned Copper Sleeving – which provides EMI, RFI and ESD protection when shielding wires. The design features extreme blowout protection, capability to be used as a grounding strap and an improved aesthetic – aspects that make the sleeve ideal for use within an engine bay to protect pipes and hoses.

Liam Marriott, Technical Manager at Optimas Components added: “The Techflex range we offer to our customers leads the way in terms of choice of specification. Backed by our global logistical capabilities, the Techflex range offers end users an economic and suitable cable protection solution on short lead times for general, or the most demanding applications.”
