Pyrometer reads high temperatures in harsh environments

A fibre-optic pyrometer from Calex Electronics has been introduced; the FibreMini has advanced features which allow accurate temperature readings on metal surfaces in harsh applications.

Measuring the surface temperature of metals is a challenging task, reflective surfaces, high ambient temperatures and harsh environments make it difficult to achieve accurate measurements with infrared temperature sensors.

The features, which are provided on all FibreMini models, make non-contact temperature measurement possible in these difficult conditions, as a fibre optic sensing head withstands up to 200°C ambient temperature, making it suitable for mounting near furnaces.

As it contains no electronics, the FibreMini sensing head is immune to electromagnetic interference in high-EMC applications such as induction heating. It is able to read accurately when measuring reflective objects in hot environments such as furnaces, with reflected energy compensation.

With a laser sighting light that illuminates the measurement area; it shows both the size and location of the measured spot. Additionally with a large full-colour temperature display with data logging it makes the FibreMini a plug-and-play solution - just connect power and start measuring.

A choice of optics for measuring small or large areas at short or long distances is available, as is a choice of temperature ranges from 250-2000°C.
