Micro end mills developed for mirror-finish machining

Expanding its milling cutter range for ultra-precision machining, Horn has added new micro end mills with monocrystalline diamond (MCD) inserts. The extremely sharp, flawlessly polished cutting edges can produce a surface quality of Rz 0.02mm.

MCD tools are suitable for finishing of aluminium alloys, non-ferrous metals and precious metals such as gold and platinum. They are also used for mirror-finish machining of plastics such as polycarbonates and PMMA.

When using MCD micro end mills to carry out ultra-precision machining of tools and moulds, there is no need to polish the components by hand afterwards. The single-edged tools are available as ball nose milling cutters from 0.1-3mm in diameter.
