Horn Cutting Tools

A new, tangential milling system was launched by Horn at the AMB exhibition in Stuttgart, with a side mill to deploy six effective cutting inserts. The patented system offers positive cutting and axial rake angles for a particularly soft cut. The precision-ground, indexable inserts ensure a high level of accuracy and surface quality.

Horn has launched a new grooving and parting off system, 32T, for Swiss-type lathes and smaller fixed-head lathes. With a precision-sintered grooving insert and central clamping screw, the system offers easy insert indexability and direct entry into the seat of the tool carrier.

A new side milling cutter for stepless adjustment of groove width has been introduced by Paul Horn and is available through the firm's UK subsidiary, Horn Cutting Tools, Ringwood. The milling body features a central sleeve that enables the required groove width to be adjusted easily on a pre-setter.

  A new milling tool for manufacturing cyclo-palloid gears in the 0.5 to 30 module range based on the Klingelnberg design has been developed by HORN. The M279 milling system is intended for producing one-offs and small batches of components. The cut distribution of the 12-insert tool enables a high chip volume to be achieved with low cutting pressure.

  Expanding its milling cutter range for ultra-precision machining, Horn has added new micro end mills with monocrystalline diamond (MCD) inserts. The extremely sharp, flawlessly polished cutting edges can produce a surface quality of Rz 0.02mm.

The latest addition to Horn’s products ranges include diamond-tipped Supermini and Mini tools with internal cooling directly to the cutting edge for boring, profiling and grooving. The new ranges of insert tooling are well suited to machining aluminium, sintered carbide, ceramics and plastics.

Horn has introduced tools for thread whirling, having six or nine inserts, which provides an efficient, cost-effective way to produce single- and multi-start external threads and profiles. Very short cycle times are achievable when they are used on sliding-head (Swiss-type) lathes and the process offers other significant advantages over single-point thread cutting.

A new, extensive range of solid carbide milling cutters have been launched by Horn, which are designed specifically for machining titanium alloys such as Ti6Al4V. The programme comprises cutters with diameters from 2-20mm, available in four and five flute geometries with a cutting edge length of 2xD and 3xD.

Now available in a new high-performance version for small jobs such as, internal grooving, chamfering, threading, broaching, facing and parting-off exotic alloys and steels, is the 105 Supermini system manufactured by Horn, which includes those that are structurally inhomogeneous. User benefits include improved productivity and significantly increased tool life.

Two independent manufacturers of carbide and cutting tools in Germany and Austria have come together in a joint sales cooperation. Horn and Boehlerit are therefore now selling each other’s products. As part of the agreement, Horn Cutting Tools will sell Boehlerit-branded ISO turning and milling tools in the UK from 1st January 2017. Similar agreements have been reached in Germany, France, the US and China.

Comprising four sizes, covering diameters from 13.1mm down to 7.6mm, the DR Small is a new modular system from Horn Cutting Tools for quickly changing small, indexable-insert reamers in a machine spindle.
