CNC investment to meet demand for precision engineering

Swansea-based hygienic engineering company, Axium Process has invested in two new Doosan CNC machines to meet increased demand for high quality precision engineering. This capital investment means Axium Process, a manufacturer of bespoke pharmaceutical processing equipment, can support the sector with higher volumes of precision engineered components that are designed in-house.

The two new additions to the factory floor include a Doosan 220lynx twin spindle CNC lathe and a Doosan DNM5700S CNC vertical milling machine, both offering 2D and 3D design prototyping, animation and simulation using fusion 360 software. The machines will be used to produce an array of components, including parts for Axium Process’s filtration systems.

This investment comes at a particularly challenging time for the pharmaceutical sector, as it faces supply chain difficulties amid the pandemic. As businesses begin to recover from the initial impact of COVID-19, Axium Process has added a new layer of resilience to the sector’s machinery supply chain.

This significant investment ensures increased in-house capacity, shortening lead times, increasing design flexibility and enabling quick recall for repeatable machining. The CNC processes are fully integrated with other services provided by Axium Process, including design, product development, fabrication and surface finishing for the process industries.

Axium Process’s skilled engineers face the demands of the pharmaceutical sector daily and the Doosan CNC machines were selected on the basis of delivering high levels of quality, performance and reliability required to service this sector. This includes the production of complex shaped parts and super-precision components in stainless steel, duplex, hastelloy, titanium, and aluminium.

“The new CNC machines support an increased demand for precision manufacturing and complex components” explained Derek Davies, Business Development Director of Axium Process. “With the help of these new arrivals, we can offer a complete engineering service under one roof. This level of continuous investment reinforces our commitment to getting it right first time for our customers.”
