A new TLB (Turning, Locking and Braking) system is being launched by Twiflex at the SMM in Hamburg this September. Part of the Altra Industrial Motion Group, the company will be demonstrating its ability to provide innovative solutions for controlling propeller shafts at sea or during routine maintenance.
Originally designed in-house by Twiflex for ice breaking vessels, the TLB system has been further developed for a wide range of marine propulsion requirements to consolidate three separate interfaces (Turning, Locking and Braking) into one multifunctional solution. Visitors to the booth will see a 3D screen printed model which fully demonstrates the innovative and compact design.
The modular nature of the design offers each function, Turning (T), Locking (L), Braking (B) - individually or as a combination (TL, LB or TB) in addition to the full TLB system.
Initially based on five standard brake disc sizes, continuous turning torques of up to 454kNm are available and, depending on configuration, an alternative indexing system is offered as an option. Operation local to the equipment is provided by a compact power unit and control panel or remote pendant.
In addition to the TLB system, Twiflex and its sister company, Wichita Clutch, will be exhibiting a wide range of solutions which have been developed for reliable and efficient operation in maritime applications.
Through Altra’s global support network, and in partnership with over twenty well-known brands within the organisation, Twiflex and Wichita engineers are able to develop complete power train solutions with individual components which have been designed for seamless integration.
Visit Twiflex at the Hamburg Messe from 6th to 9th September 2016, Booth 520, Hall B1, upstairs in the British Pavilion.
