An addition to Toshiba Electronics Europe’s (Toshiba) line-up of dual H-bridge driver ICs for DC brushed motors and stepping motors has been launched. The new TC78H653FTG delivers the low voltage (1.8V) and high current (4.0A) essential for motor-based equipment powered by dry-cell batteries such as mobile devices, electronic products for the home and USB drives.

Engineers seeking to significantly improve the efficiency and performance of electric motors could benefit from using Aluminium Matrix Composites (AMCs), according to research from the Innovate UK ‘Make it Lighter with Less’ R&D competition. The project, led by AMC specialist, Alvant, in collaboration with GE Aviation, YASA Motors and the National Composites Centre, achieved a 40% rotor weight saving on an axial flux electric motor while increasing the rotor’s power-to-inertia ratio potential.

Kollmorgen has announced the new AKD2G Servo Drive, which is a dual-axis AKD2G, one of the most power-dense industrial servo drives on the market. . It substantially reduces mains wiring, fuses, and filtering to save significant panel space and cost. The AKD2G features expandable I/O (without increasing the size), removable memory, dual-channel STO, and the first drive-resident graphic display in the industry. 

Following the successful TMCM-1110 StepRocker and TMCM-1111 StepRocker Servo, TRINAMIC Motion Control has announced its new StepRocker boards with StealthChop. Just like the first members of the StepRocker family, the TMCM-1211 and TMCM-1316 are open-source single-axis motor controller/driver modules for 2-phase bipolar stepper motors.

In conjunction with one of its distributors, Danfoss Drives and E Bennett Electrical, have recently donated six Danfoss AC variable speed drives to The JCB Academy, an exciting new school for students from the age of 13 who are interested in business and engineering. The drives were also complemented with six new WEG motors to give students the opportunity to get accustomed with real industry technology.

A high precision, low profile, compact motorised rotary stage, the AY110-100-SC, is now being offered by Optimal Engineering Systems (OES). This precision stage is 45mm high and the foot print is only 121 by 170mm. The stage has a pattern of threaded mounting holes in the rotary table and holes in the base for easy integration into new and existing applications.

The result of the cooperation is the new Type 8647 AirLINE SP valve island, which is compatible with the Siemens I/O system SIMATIC ET 200SP. Bürkert will present the valve island system at SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg from 22nd to 24th November 2016.
