Bringing BIM markets together

As the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology progresses in different stages around the world, the Chinese demand for technically accurate 3D BIM objects for Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design is quickly increasing.

To meet this demand, the Finnish MEP software vendor Progman Oy is expanding its offering for the market by setting up a locally operating development team for its MEP-focused cloud service MagiCloud.

Progman has extended the MagiCloud team to Beijing to offer improved service for the Chinese subscribers of its online BIM object library MagiCloud and to trial new services and improvements for global use. As part of the local service improvements, the Chinese MagiCloud users will from now on be able to access the service using a local site at www.magicloud.cn.

Together with MagiCloud’s international portal www.magicloud.com, the cloud service now provides improved accessibility for MEP designers and other users of accurate MEP product data regardless of the users’ locality. MagiCloud is an online service that provides the world’s largest selection of manufacturer verified BIM objects for MEP design with comprehensive functional data for engineering calculations. Subscription to MagiCloud with access to BIM object downloads is currently free of charge.

Ten years in the Chinese market
Progman first entered the Chinese market with the MEP design software MagiCAD in 2007, and established its first office in Beijing in 2008. In 2014, Progman became part of the Glodon Group, the leading Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) software vendor in China. Now, in setting up MagiCloud operations in China, Progman works in close cooperation with several divisions of the Glodon Group, including their MEP department as well as Glodon’s Square Technologies business unit, a well-known service provider among Chinese MEP designers and real estate developers.

“Progman and Glodon both serve a global customer base. By extending MagiCloud’s service offering and product development in China we want to ensure that we can deliver the best possible service to BIM object users and component manufacturers both locally and globally”, commented Riitta Korri, Technical Director of Product Data Services at Progman. “This means easy availability of data-rich BIM objects as well as fast and agile development of new MagiCloud services for global use”, Korri said.

Wider market horizons for Progman’s manufacturer customers
For the European and Chinese MEP component manufacturers, MagiCloud’s extended local reach will enable an exponentially wider customer potential, as Chinese MEP designers have better access to MagiCloud’s international offering and MEP designers in Europe and internationally to the Chinese offering. This means a significantly wider potential for component sales for manufacturers, as the product model selected for a project during the design stage often turns into concrete component sales when the project’s implementation draws closer.
