WEG is launching the WG20, a new range of highly versatile modular geared motors that offer worldwide interchangeability and up to 96% energy efficiency across a wide range of industrial applications requiring precise and reliable power transmission. The new geared motor will enable users to increase the energy efficiency of systems in their plants significantly, reducing associated energy costs.

A petrochemical refinery in Brazil is turning up the steam to meet increased domestic demand by becoming the first crude oil refinery to be entirely built with Brazilian technology. This includes WEG motors at the heart of one of their core processes.

WEG has added three new frame sizes to its W22X line of flameproof motors, the 560, 630 and 710. Innovations adopted in the W22X design include a tube array for optimising through draught cooling. This provides air ducts with both axial and radial flowpaths to maximise cooling of the rotor, stator and critical components such as the bearings. It is allied with an aerodynamic fan and fan cover, designed for efficient air flow generation whilst minimising the noise output.

WEG W22XB high efficiency motors are providing a unique explosion-protected solution for Rosneft, Russia’s leading oil company, in the harshness of the Arctic Circle. Designed for long term operation at temperatures down to -60 dregees C, the W22XB motors are driving crude oil pumps in the giant Vankor Oil Field situated in the Siberian Region, Krasnoyarsk.

WEG has enhanced ability to provide complete integrated solutions for power transmission applications with the WATT range of gear units and geared motors since the recent acquisition of the Austrian manufacturer by the WEG Group.

WEG has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable solutions, with the supply of 62 self-monitoring motors for the recently- opened 55,000 m3/d Trekkopje sea water desalination plant in Namibia. The plant is the largest of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa and is a vital water supply asset in a country where 98% of the land is considered arid or semi arid. The WEG motors, ranging from 18.5kW to 750kW, drive pumps that are considered crucial to the plant’s reliable operation.

WEG UK’s growth continues apace, with the appointment of Philip Hall, a highly skilled, senior professional in business development, to its sales team. Phil has over 30- years experience in the electric motor and drives markets, working with major companies such as Siemens, Rockwell, Reliance, Teco-Westinghouse and Parker Hannifin. He was most recently employed as Business Development Manager for Brook Crompton.

WEG is providing the highest levels of energy efficiency and protection in hazardous environments, following the launch of the W22X range of flameproof electric motors, which were shown as part of WEG’s extensive automation portfolio at the SPS/IPC/Drives 2011 exhibition at Nuremberg.

WEG S.A. has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding and the concluding of a technology transfer agreement with M. Torres Olvega Industrial (MTOI) of Spain. The memorandum of understanding and the technology transfer agreement will result in the creation of a joint venture between WEG and MTOI, with equal participation, for manufacturing, assembling, installing and marketing of wind turbine generators, as well as operation and maintenance services.

WEG S.A. and CESTARI Industrial e Comercial S.A. have established a joint venture for the development, manufacturing and distribution of gearboxes and gear motors. Upon this transaction, WEG will acquire 50%-plus-one-share of the joint venture company based on CESTARI’s assets related to the manufacturing of gearboxes and gear motors, with expectation to achieve revenues of approximately R$ 70 million in 2011. Present in the market for over one hundred years, CESTARI is one of the largest players in the Brazilian gearboxes and gear motors market and it is headquartered in Monte Alto, State of São Paulo, with vertically integrated production capabilities including iron, bronze and aluminum casting facilities and state-of-the-art machining centers.

Watt Drive acquisition enhances product portfolio and reinforces WEG’s presence in power transmition WEG announced on 8th November 2011 the acquisition of Watt Drive Antriebstechnik GmbH (“Watt Drive”), an Austrian corporation that designs and manufactures gearboxes, gear motors, drives and control systems.

H J Weir has been providing separating, feeding, folding and stacking solutions for the global laundry industry for over 50- years. Now the company is expanding into the USA, and is taking its long standing and highly successful supply partnership, with ERIKS and WEG motors, along with it.

WEG celebrated its 50th birthday on 16th September 2011. In just five- decades the company has grown from modest beginnings, as a LV motor manufacturer in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, to a global giant with earnings exceeding US $3 billion. Along the way WEG has evolved from a proprietary supplier of electric motors to become a major global solutions provider of power supply, power distribution, power transmission and turnkey automation systems. This evolution continues apace, underpinned by state of the art manufacturing plants in Brazil, Argentina, China, India, Mexico and Portugal, and sales offices and distributors across 5 continents.

WEG is providing global Oil and Gas markets with the highest levels of energy efficiency and protection in hazardous environments, following the launch of its new W22X range of flameproof electric motors, which are being shown for the first time in the UK at Offshore Europe 2011.

WEG is meeting the demands for high efficiency operation across water and waste water treatment applications with its WIMES compliant W22 line of motors, one of the most energy efficient ranges on the market today. The W22 WIMES line is available in two versions, both backed by a 3-year warranty, and both designed to exceed the requirements of the new IE2 (High) and IE3 (Premium) efficiency classes. Importantly, the IE3 Premium Efficiency versions of the motors are available now, in standard IEC frame sizes, well in advance of the next phase of the Energy using Products (EuP) Motor Regulations due for implementation in 2015/2017.

WEG is supplying new, lighter traction motors that save over 400kgs in weight on the latest generation of trolley buses. The buses employ the traction motor and a matched inverter on their differentials to increase power, reduce weight and improve economy.

Hidral-Mac has established a partnership with WEG for the supply of electrical control panels for all its lines of hydraulic presses. Hidral-Mac produces around 600 machines per year; these cater for practically all industrial segments, providing cutting, bending and forming of parts from keys to fans, refrigerators and cars.

WEG has manufactured its largest ever medium voltage inverter for an oil industry-related application in the USA. The inverter, an 8000-HP (5996kW) 950A unit is claimed to be highest efficiency (99%) and the most reliable (22-yr MTBF) medium voltage inverter in the world. It has been supplied to control a 7500-HP WEG motor driving mud drilling pumps while on test.

WEG has further advanced its position as a leading global supplier of power transformers, with the inauguration of a new state-of-the-art transformer manufacturing plant in Mexico. Officially opened on April 14th 2010, the new plant is sited adjacent to WEG’s existing motor plant, which manufactures low and medium voltage motors, generators and control panels for automation systems.
