STEMMER IMAGING

A wide range of industrial vision technologies will be on show from STEMMER IMAGING at MACH 2018. These will cover part and assembly verification, new 3D measurement capabilities, versatile general inspection and measurement systems and the latest machine learning approach to pattern recognition. 

A technical seminar covering ‘machine learning’ at the UKIVA Machine Vision Conference and Exhibition will be presented by STEMMER IMAGING. Equipment on show at the exhibition highlights 3D imaging capabilities. New 3D tools within Common Vision Blox and two LMI Gocator 2340 all-in-one 3D smart sensors operating in dual sensor mode will be demonstrated.

Registration is now officially open for the second day of STEMMER IMAGING’s UK Vision Technology Forum at the Silverstone Wing Exhibition and Conference Centre, taking place 15-16th November 2017. Visitors can choose between the completely free standalone technology day on November 16th, which follows a similar format to the previous Forums, or a two-day package that also includes an in-depth one day training course, gala dinner with entertainment and overnight accommodation. 

The Munich-based AL-KO AG, parent company of the internationally active AL-KO KOBER SE, has acquired 75.04% of the shares in STEMMER IMAGING from the company's founder Wilhelm Stemmer. The successful management team acquired a share of 24.96% in the company as part of the transaction.

Especially suited to the examination of components with shiny and diffusely-scattering surfaces, the Trevista X4 models utilise a patented 2.5D process, called Shape from Shading. Surface defects such as scratches, burrs, dents, discolouration or grinding marks, even if only a few micrometres deep can be detected with significantly greater certainty with this process than with conventional image processing systems.

Used for part and product traceability, reading product codes to avoid labelling mix-ups, and validating product type, lot and expiration date codes, the Boa Spot ID is supplied with integrated lighting and choices of sensor resolution, lenses and software tools. It can also be used to check that markings and label positions are correct and the presence or absence of features as well as checking assembly history at every stage of manufacturing. 

Self-contained 3D profile sensors, the LMI Gocator 2100 series, have been introduced to replace the old Gocator 2000 modules. The Gocator 2100 Series combines improved VGA sensors with a host of other improvements in size, connectivity and measurement tools, at a highly competitive price point.

The Calibir uncooled Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) modular camera platform from Teledyne DALSA covers wavelengths from 8-14µm and supports a variety of camera interfaces and lenses. The first in the range, the Calibir 640, offers shutterless imaging for a range of imaging applications requiring long wave IR detectors in the field of surveillance and monitoring, defence and security, maintenance and general machine vision.

Four new additions to the JAI Spark Series of industrial cameras combine 12 megapixel resolution with the full 189 fps frame rate of the CMOSIS CMV-12000 CMOS sensor. These ultra high performance colour and monochrome cameras are designed for wide range of high speed inspection, event capture and metrology applications.

Six new models featuring 2 and 5 megapixel resolution ON Semiconductor Python CMOS sensors have been added to the Genie Nano range of GigE Vision industrial cameras from Teledyne DALSA. Using burst acquisition and patent pending TurboDrive technology, these cameras can operate at much higher frame rates with faster data transmission than normally possible using GigE Vision. This means they can be used in faster applications. 

Two new 16k models have been added to the Piranha XL CMOS TDI series of high speed line scan cameras from Teledyne DALSA. These new XDR models are optimised to provide extended dynamic range, better signal-to-noise ratio and improved overall performance in a wide range of lighting conditions. 

The new TrueChrome Metrics camera from STEMMER IMAGING provides fully integrated digital image capture and measurement for micro and macro scientific and industrial imaging applications with no need for a PC. 

STEMMER IMAGING can now offer the Boa Spot vision sensors from Teledyne DALSA. Designed for automating basic inspection tasks on production line, such as detecting the presence or absence of features and performing simple measurements, the self-contained Boa Spot provides vision system performance at vision sensor pricing.

STEMMER IMAGING and Perception Park have signed a cooperation agreement for the distribution of innovative imaging systems based on Chemical Colour Imaging (CCI) technology. CCI combines essential advantages of the basic technologies of chemical imaging (hyperspectral imaging) and colour imaging (Colour image processing) and makes chemical material properties accessible to a completely new range of users through new approaches to data processing.

STEMMER IMAGING can offer a versatile range of USB3 Vision cameras from JAI together with special cables optimised for USB3 use. A choice of CCD or CMOS sensors, a variety of resolutions and extensive functionality provide the flexibility for end users, OEMs and systems integrators to take advantage of the high speed USB3 Vision interface and select the most appropriate camera for the application.

STEMMER IMAGING can now offer the LMI Gocator 3109 3D Smart Snapshot Sensor, designed for assembly line builders who need to perform robot-mounted and fixed frame inline 3D scanning and inspection of stationary targets.  3D point cloud data acquisition, 3D measurement tools, and control decision capabilities are combined in a single package for powerful assembly feature inspection.

STEMMER IMAGING has worked closely with London Underground to develop and deliver 104 industrial camera assemblies that are mounted directly onto passenger trains to provide image data on the condition of the wheel/rail interface and the track itself. By acquiring this data during normal timetable periods, more time is available during the 4-hour night closure period to maintain the network’s 1000 km of track, minimising any disruption to services and helping to make the new weekend extended operating times possible.

CVB 2016 CameraSuite, the latest version of STEMMER IMAGING’s high-performance and easy-to-install development environment for machine vision applications based on Common Vision Blox, has been released. The SDK now also supports USB3 Vision cameras.

Two new series of line scan cameras added to the STEMMER IMAGING camera range provide enhanced multispectral imaging capabilities for industrial imaging applications. The Sweep+ from JAI and the Quadlinear Piranha4 from Teledyne DALSA both allow simultaneous capture of colour and near infrared (NIR) images. A rich choice of imaging technologies, resolution and sensor types means that the most appropriate camera can be chosen for the application.
