The latest release of Solid Edge software, has been announced by Siemens. Solid edge is a portfolio of affordable, easy-to-use software tools that advance all aspects of the product development process, including mechanical and electrical design, simulation, manufacturing, technical documentation, and data management.

Siemens PLM Software has announced extensions to its portfolio for model based systems engineering (MBSE) to enable Multi-Domain Engineering as a key component of the Systems Driven Product Development strategy. Building on its extensive MBSE technology, which includes Teamcenter software, Simcenter software, Capital software, NX software, and Polarion software, Siemens PLM Software is further enriching the solution with a strong commitment to open standards and the open source software enabling these technologies to integrate with the digital twin.

Scalable digital solutions that aid companies to stay ahead of the game and utilise the full potential of digitalisation is what Siemens Digital Enterprise portfolio has to offer at this year’s SPS Drives show, and the company does not stop there. Siemens also offers opportunities to learn about how its 'digital twins' provide major advantages for machine building and plant engineering.

A course developed by the University of Salford, aimed at tackling critical skills shortages, has just enrolled a group of engineers from Siemens. Designed in a partnership with Siemens to meet a growing skills gap in industry, the BEng (Hons) Control and Automation degree will have a flexible delivery model to suit industry needs and minimise time off the job. It includes content developed and delivered by Siemens, as well as expertise and knowledge provided by Salford academics.  

A new range of coating machines that form part of modular production platform have been specified with control technology solutions from Siemens. The platform has been created by production machinery manufacturer, Emerson & Renwick (E&R) and incorporates vacuum, wet and digital coating capabilities, with the vacuum coating solution identified as a radical and disruptive technology innovation.

Enabling both digitalisation of the field as well as extensive new software functionality, version 9 of the Simatic PCS 7 process control system supports the Industrial Ethernet standard Profinet with two new distributed I/O lines. In addition, plant operators will also benefit from greater flexibility, convenience, future-proofing and wide-ranging compatibility with legacy installations. The demands made on the flexibility, scalability, availability and security of plants operating in the processing industries are growing all the time.

Siemens has extended its partner network across the UK. Central Group is now a Distribution Partner for Siemens’ LV motors and couplings. Central Group already provides expertise in the maintenance and repair of pumps and alternators. The partnership will see it now also offer Siemens’ complete portfolio of low voltage motor products covering a performance range from 0.09 to 4000 kW to end users and OEMs within the utilities, chemicals, metals, paper, food & beverage, oil & gas and renewables markets.  

Through a strategic partnership with Indrico, Siemens has extended its Partner network across the UK. The partnership sees the distributor appointed as a UK Drives Technical Partner for its Large Drives products and solutions. This new partnership means Indrico will provide sales and technical support to end users and OEMs alike in the industrial drives market, with a particular emphasis on higher power SINAMICS low voltage variable speed drives, both AC and DC.

  This year’s three-day Spark engineering festival countdown has begun, as it is set to fire-up the imagination of young people across the region. The event is taking place from 5th-7th May at Lincoln Cathedral will bring engineering to life through interactive exhibits and celebrate Lincolnshire’s engineering past, present and future.

The Sinamics S210 converter from Siemens was designed specifically for use with the newly developed Simotics S-1FK2 motors, now the company is offering a new servo drive system in five power classes ranging from 50-750W. The converters come with integrated safety functions and enable rapid engineering. In addition, they are connected to the higher-level controller over Profinet and allow simple commissioning using a web server and one-button tuning.

Working together Siemens UK & Ireland and Encirc have agreed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see both companies enter a strategic digitalisation partnership. The memorandum represents the start of a technology partnership agreement between the two companies, designed to spearhead the deployment of advanced digital technologies and services across Encirc’s operations.

To help address the engineering skills shortage affecting UK industry, Siemens and the University of Salford have teamed up and unveiled a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree. The pioneering BEng degree in Control & Automation will address these gaps by increasing the academic status of apprentices and engineering personnel in these areas, delivering relevant content - especially digital content - to meet the needs of today’s industrial businesses.

To incorporate centralised motion control when paired with S7-1500 or S7-1200-based PLC systems, Siemens has added PROFINET connection to its SINAMICS V90 servo drive system.
