Siemens has launched a new free, fun, online car design simulation game to inspire children’s interest in STEM subjects. The Digital Twin Challenge puts players in the position of chief designer of a new model of car. Aimed at KS3 pupils, 11-14 year old’s, the interactive game involves designing and testing a vehicle that offers high performance, excellent range and protects the environment by finding the right balance of power, range, and emissions.

Young engineers at Siemens have become part of manufacturing history after playing a major role in the ventilator challenge. A team of 100 people from Siemens UK, Digital Industries (DI), Industry Software, Siemens Healthineers and Siemens Energy - enabled the Ventilator Challenge UK consortium to achieve its target of producing 13,500 medical devices in just 12 weeks.

A collaborative digital technology project between Siemens and Hosokawa Micron Limited (HML) has helped its customers improve productivity by 15% and reduce energy costs by 10%. The project - Hosokawa Gen4 - introduced Siemens’ MindSphere IoT operating system to HML’s manufacturing facility in Runcorn, Cheshire. Using the digital technology platform HML, a global leader in powder processing equipment, was able to integrate assets across the factory to remotely monitor the performance of equipment and plan.

Siemens Digital Industries Software has announced the immediate availability of Simcenter System Analyst, a collaborative solution that allows for the creation of industry-specific applications to drive system simulation models. With over 13,000 electrical fires in the UK each year, Wylex have launched a new, smaller Arc Fault Detection Device (AFDD) that disconnects the power supply when it detects a dangerous arc fault in a circuit. With recent research finding that a third of electricians do not install AFDDs because of they take up too much space, Wylex have developed a ‘mini-AFDD’.

Siemens has entered into an agreement to acquire Sheffield, United Kingdom-based Lightwork Design, a computer software and technology licensing company specialising in 3D rendering software development and virtual reality (VR) experience generation. With the addition of Lightwork Design, Siemens PLM Software will provide customers with enhanced 3D data visualisation, high-end rendering and VR capabilities via its comprehensive suite of 3D product lifecycle management (PLM) applications. 

Siemens has announced the new system modeling workbench for Teamcenter software, built in partnership with Obeo, to extend Siemens’ Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) offering. This solution will integrate the Teamcenter portfolio with both SysML general purpose modelling language for engineering and Capella, an open-source modeling tool dedicated to system, software and hardware architecture.
