Recently the global tool manufacturing and knowledge company decided to take a closer look at the macro trends influencing the future of the manufacturing industry. Through an extensive study the company identified four areas of special interest: Rapid urbanization, sustainability, new advanced materials and new technologies.

The CoroMill 316 exchangeable-head milling system is a truly versatile system for milling operations. It can be applied for high feed face milling, slot milling, helical interpolation, shoulder milling, profile milling and chamfer milling of components in material groups from ISO P to ISO S. From March 1st this high performance system is available with internal coolant holes.

CoroMill 419 is a new five-edge high-feed milling concept for roughing to semi-finishing, offering excellent performance in all material groups and with great possibilities for optimization. The new milling cutter is suitable for most applications and industry segments requiring high feed face and profile milling.

Sandvik Coromant debuts its Online Drilling Knowledge Hub at www.drillingknowledge.co.uk, a website dedicated to optimizing drilling process and customizing results to the needs of the user. As the most common metalworking operation, hole making holds the potential to make or break operators’ productivity and profitability.

Sandvik Coromant has adopted the ISO 13399 standard for simplifying cutting tool data representation and exchange. Customer benefits include lower cost for tool information management and more accurate and efficient use of manufacturing resources. For example, there is no longer any need to change existing programming settings to use Sandvik Coromant tooling.

Sandvik Coromant has introduced a new range of skiving and roller burnishing tools that allow manufacturers to finish cylinder bores in machine times of up to 90 per cent less than conventional honing techniques. Furthermore, thanks to enhanced process security, faster cycle times are achieved without any detriment to extremely accurate finished tube diameters.

Sandvik Coromant, is introducing two new concepts for productive deep hole drilling operations specific to large hole diameters, the CoroDrill 801 and CoroDrill 818. CoroDrill 801 is designed to support secure drilling processes in materials that are difficult-to-chip.

Free from Sandvik Coromant, the new Drilling App for iPhones is designed to offer a quick and easy way for machine shops to calculate cycle times and costs for all drilling and tapping operations. With efficiency more important than ever in fast moving machine shop environments, there is now a virtually instant method of discovering how long drilling cycles will take, and how much they will cost.

CoroDrill 460-XM is a multi-application, high-performance drill that can be used across a wide range of materials. This drill provides high capacity utilization, flexibility and versatility. With one drill for all materials, stock holding can be reduced and greater machine flexibility is offered leading to reduced set-up time.

From October 1st, the recently launched CoroDrill 870 is available for both steel and cast iron drilling operations. The CoroDrill 870 is part of a new generation of exchangeable-tip drills and is designed to save time and reduce hole costs.

The new Sandvik Coromant micro-geometry drills are demonstrating outstanding performance for holes up to 2.95 mm diameter. Sandvik Coromant introduces the CoroDrill 861, a brand new range of solid carbide drills for deep hole drilling applications. Featuring Advanced Chip Management (ACM) flute geometry, the new drills are able to generate small, manageable chips. This, combined with specially designed point geometry to reduce thrust forces and patented double-offset margin geometry, helps provide the high stability necessary for drilling deep holes in the most expedient and efficient manner.

For many years Sandvik Coromant has been an advocate of environmental sustainability in the manufacturing industry. The company’s Carbide Recycling Concept (CRC) was implemented way back in 1996 as an initiative to minimize waste and offset the effects of consuming natural resource materials.

It’s well documented that producing features such as small threads and chamfers in small holes using a machining centre or milling machine is far from straightforward due to the size of cutter, the neck/reach required and the associated issues of productivity and accuracy. Bone screw and medical implant parts to benefit from enhanced threading technology - Increasing demand for technology that can produce thread forms quickly and at high tolerances using sliding head machines has led to the introduction by Sandvik Coromant of new CoroMill 325® thread whirling inserts and holders for medical applications.

Always seeking to improve machining efficiency for its customers, cutting tool and tooling systems specialist Sandvik Coromant has added a series of specialized end mills for finishing titanium to its impressive CoroMill® Plura range. Featuring a light cutting action facilitated by an innovative 50° helix angle, the end mills are optimized for titanium alloys used commonly in the aerospace industry, particularly finishing and semi-finishing in deep pockets with thin walls. The design allows cutting at high metal removal rates without inducing vibration.

New inserts for CoroMill 328 provide users with greater machining choice - Offering external and internal slotting, grooving and circlip grooving (with chamfer) as well as full profile internal threading, new inserts for Sandvik Coromant’s CoroMill® 328 offer customers a wider range of profile choices than previously available.

Offering grounded knowledge and skills training to new talents in the engineering and manufacturing industry - Sandvik Coromant in partnership with the EEF Apprentice and Skills Technology Centre, Birmingham, launches a technician apprentice training program at the same time as introducing a graduate trainee program. Both initiatives are aimed at attracting people keen to pursue a career in UK manufacturing.
