It has been announced that Mitsubishi Electric Corporation will enter the global market for voltage-sourced converters (VSC) based high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems with a new HVDC verification facility to be built at its Transmission and Distribution Center in Amagasaki, Japan by 2018.

Mushroom producer saves energy with variable speed drives
Turning to Mitsubishi Electric, Irish mushroom producer, Codd Mushrooms wanted to save energy and boost reliability within its factory chilled water systems. Resulting in PLC-based control system using Mitsubishi Electric variable speed drives to control the various pumps, delivering a saving of over 5400kWh in one week, which will amount to €40,000 (approx. £33,000) per year.

An opening ceremony was held for MHI Compressor do Brasil (MCO-B), a Brazilian joint venture established by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation (MCO), a Hiroshima-based Group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), and Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), at its head office in Piracicaba, in Sao Paulo state, to mark the launch of full-scale operations.

The interactive robotic installation known as ‘Threebots’ by Mitsubishi Electric, has received several coveted awards since its installation at the new German branch, in Ratingen. They include the ‘Cutting Edge Award’ presented by Adobe, and ‘FWA’ the latter of which was awarded by a jury of more than 200 experts in recognition of projects that use cutting-edge technology to communicate knowledge.

Scientists use robot to test cells by the billion
Farnborough-based Peak Analysis and Automation (PAA) designed and built an automated primary antibody screening workcell for early stage development of potential new treatments for central nervous system and immunology disorders, for UCB. PAA built around a Mitsubishi Electric robot, so the workcell speeds up the process of antibody discovery by allowing the screening of billions of antibody producing B cells.

Mitsubishi Electric has responded to the needs of the surface inspection market, in particular within the print industry, with the launch of a high-speed version of its contact image sensor (CIS), distributed under the name Mitsubishi Electric Line Scan Bar. Offering high quality, distortion-free image acquisition right up to the edges of the material, the new CIS scans surfaces at speeds up to 1000m per minute and above, in a compact, easy to install format.

Honda Motor has increased efficiency of production and operation management at its Yorii Plant by introducing the Ethernet-based CC-Link IE Field network, which allows communication within a unified network for control signals from FA devices such as PLCs, production management information, and safety signals. Having established Yorii as the ‘mother factory’, lateral expansion to overseas factories such as the new plant in Mexico and elsewhere is beginning, aiming for further enhanced competitive ability on a global scale.
