The 1,000th ship-to-shore crane with safe energy chain system

The 1,000th ship-to-shore crane with safe energy chain system
igus has announced it has fitted its 1,000th ship-to-shore (STS) crane with an energy chain system. For these long travels, rolling energy chains (rol e-chains) are used to maximise service life, while minimising drive power. They can also be combined with the new isense modules to measure the movement and wear of the energy chain system – this enables the replacement date for components to be predicted during ongoing operation and fail-safe operation is therefore enhanced.

Bearings help guide drilling machine in bone fracture repairs

Bearings help guide drilling machine in bone fracture repairs
Helping a team of students meet the demanding requirements of a smart drill measuring system used to fix bone fractures, the iglidur plain bearings from igus have the ability that the project needs. The combination of rotary drive and axial vibration required the use of high-quality plain bearings not only to implement freedom of movement in the axial direction, but also to achieve the most accurate signals possible at high vibration frequencies.

Linear guide for low-cost positioning and adjustment tasks

Linear guide for low-cost positioning and adjustment tasks
A cost-effective alternative to igus' standard drylin ZLW linear guides for simple positioning and adjustment task has been introduced. Available ready-to-install, the drylin ZLW eco is suitable for applications where a high degree of positioning accuracy and the ability to handle high loads and speeds are not key requirements. A typical application would be in a vending machine for dispensing packaged food or drink bottles.

Honeycomb system makes energy chain harnessing easy

Honeycomb system makes energy chain harnessing easy
An exclusive strain relief system for energy chains has been introduced by igus, the E4.1L, which replaces the cable tie-wraps that are commonly used in industry. Cables and hoses are simply inserted into a honeycomb, called the CFU, and then closed. Compared to cable tie-wraps or other strain relief solutions, the engineer can save about 80% assembly and engineering time.

Polymer banknotes exhibit longer lives than paper versions

Polymer banknotes exhibit longer lives than paper versions
Ever since the first banknotes were created and recorded in the 7th century over in China they have been made from cotton paper.Paper money did not really catch on in Europe, however, until nearly a thousand years later. It was first widely used in the UK in 1759, when gold shortages caused by the Seven Years War forced the Bank of England to issue £10 notes for the first time. The first £5 notes followed about 20 years later at the start of the French Revolution. More recently, the Bank has begun switching to a special polymer that promises to be more durable and cleaner than paper.
