Good Riddance to Legionnella risk
Carter Environmental Engineers have successfully completed the installation of their Adiabatic Water Cooler at the largest privately owned presswork company in the UK.
Sertec (Birmingham) Ltd, who manufacture pressed parts and welded assemblies for automotive giants such as Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin, have replaced their Open Evaporative Cooling Tower with Carter’s Adiabatic Water Cooler, which negates the need for water treatment and also completely removes the risk of Legionnaires’ disease.

Following a full risk assessment, Sertec required a safe (ACOPL8 compliant) cost-effective and long-term alternative form of cooling, as the company’s Works and Maintenance Manager Mike Russell explained:

“We need to conserve the cooled water used by our spot-welders with a highly efficient re-circulating system. With guidance from our Health & Safety Manager, we wanted to totally remove the risk of Legionnella - and with it, the pressure and time-consuming task of maintenance and due-diligence monitoring”.

He added: “A first, Carter’s Adiabatic might look as if it’s at the top end of the market, but its whole life costs, especially its energy efficiency, speak for themselves. With no water treatment and no need for costly chemicals, running costs are around a massive four-fifths less than a traditional cooling tower or most other adiabatics”.

Very easy to maintain, the Carter Adiabatic Water Cooler is designed with foul-free coils, which help maintain thermal efficiency and greatly prolong its life because the coil surface remains completely dry. Lifetime costs and energy efficiency are further enhanced by the Cooler’s inverter fan control package which sets fans running at absolute minimum speed and power for the necessary cooling. In addition, there is no need for filters, pre-filters or UV lamps.

Mike Russell continued: “We were very impressed with the knowledgeable and impartial advice given to us by Carter Environmental Engineers. Because they design and manufacture the full range of water cooling products, we knew we weren’t just being offered one particular product, but the very best solution for us from a truly comprehensive range”.

Carter’s Adiabatic Water Cooler will be on display (Stand A37) at RAC09 at the NEC in Birmingham, 24-26 February 2009.
