“In a biogas industry that is growing so rapidly there is an urgent need for improved standards and specifications”, urges Kirk’s CEO Gary Little.
Frustrated by the lack of legislation, Kirk Environmental has worked in close conjunction with its partners in Austria to develop its own standards covering specialist roofings, membrane lifetime expectancy, and the effects of gas on the internal membrane. These exacting standards have been recently applied by Kirk Environmental to its BIODOME® projects in the UK, the U S, Australia, Malaysia, Korea, and Eastern Europe.
“Not only is the need for specifications being ignored by too many”, continues Little, “but some choose not to test the internal membrane above normal working pressures, which is bad practice.
“In the rush to build biogas plants it seems some are prepared to take chances by saving themselves a bit of money in the short term. The industry is already blessed with a large number of high quality suppliers but we still need to keep raising the bar - not settle for second best”.
Currently working on a major project with Montgomery Watson and Costain to supply its BIODOME® Gas Holders to Thames Water, Little says that as far as Kirk Environmental are concerned there can be no compromise on security or health and safety.
