Repositionable reaction vessel viscometer provides reliable data in real time
The ReactaVisc 300 from Hydramotion is an unlimited-range, research-grade device for the continuous measurement of dynamic viscosity in reaction vessels of any capacity. The compact, narrow-bodied enclosure takes up minimal space at the top of the vessel, leaving plenty of room for ancillary equipment, e.g. for stirring, reagent addition or temperature measurement.
Although robust, the ReactaVisc is light enough to be fitted directly to laboratory-scale reaction vessels without requiring special support. Viscosity is measured every two seconds and displayed on a signal processor unit ingress protected to IP65.

The ReactaVisc needs no initial setting-up or calibration by the user. Also, no recalibration is needed when the viscometer is transferred from one vessel to another, since calibration is unaffected by the volume of fluid or the dimensions of the container.

The single sensor is an all-welded 316 stainless steel construction, although other materials such as special alloys can be used if required. Additionally, a high-polish, PTFE or custom finish can be applied.

The instrument is supplied with a compression fitting that can be fixed at any point along the sensor shaft, enabling the immersion depth of the sensor to be adjusted at will. This makes it easy to use the viscometer in differing volumes of fluid or transfer the instrument between vessels of varying capacity. The compression fitting incorporates a tapered or threaded adaptor to suit the installation requirements. Any number of adaptors can be supplied.

Outputs include a 4-20 mA analogue viscosity signal and a serial data link (RS422/485 or RS232). Two volt-free contacts can be provided to signal high or low viscosity alarm conditions. The optional PC-based ViscoLink software package offers the facility to export data to Microsoft® Excel™ for logging and analysis.

The instrument is ideal for monitoring changes in viscosity during the course of a reaction, for example in polymer synthesis. As such, it can be used either as a research tool or applied to a small-scale production facility. There are no moving parts, so routine maintenance requirements are minimal.

Shipped ready for immediate use, the ReactaVisc 300 viscometer can be in place and working within minutes of being unpacked.
