New compact laboratory viscometer ideal for high-throughput systems
A powerful new tool in lab-scale viscosity measurement is the goVisc 500 from viscosity measurement specialists Hydramotion Ltd. The goVisc 500 is a compact, high-performance precision viscometer ideal for general laboratory work where high precision and excellent repeatability are required. As a standalone device with real-time analogue or digital outputs, the goVisc is also especially suitable for automated applications in which viscosity measurement must be continuously available such as high-throughput analytical or quality control systems.
Viscosity is measured simply by immersing the sensor in the fluid to be measured, after which it can quickly be rinsed clean. The hygienic sensor is an all-welded construction with a smooth, crevice-free surface that resists fouling and facilitates cleaning. It can be mounted in any orientation. The standard sensor uses 316 stainless steel but other materials can be used where necessary, and the instrument can be customised to meet specific installation or measurement requirements.

The goVisc 500 has excellent repeatability and exceptionally high sensitivity, enabling it to track very subtle viscosity changes often undetectable by other types of viscometer. Measurements are unaffected by flow rate or the presence of suspended solids or gases. An integral thermometer provides simultaneous measurement of fluid temperature, allowing calculation of viscosity corrected to a reference temperature at the same time.
Installation is simple and takes minutes. As with all Hydramotion viscometers, the goVisc is factory-calibrated to international standards traceable to NIST and requires no recalibration. All instrument-specific data are stored on the sensor, giving complete flexibility of installation as well as facilitating adjustment and performance monitoring. There are no moving parts, seals or bearings, so routine maintenance is not required.

The goVisc can be powered either from a simple DC supply or via a USB plug-and-play connection to a PC. Outputs include a fully-configurable 4-20mA analogue viscosity signal and RS485 serial data, enabling a number of sensors to be bus-connected in a multidrop configuration. The associated PC-based ViscoLink software (supplied with the instrument) has a user-friendly interface showing live viscosity, current temperature and temperature-corrected viscosity. There is also the facility to export data to Microsoft® Excel™ for logging and analysis.

Configuring the system for optimum performance is quick and easy using ViscoLink. Moreover, the user has instant access to a complete set of diagnostic parameters for instrument validation purposes, thereby minimizing the time, effort and cost involved in any regulatory assessment of calibration and condition.

Shipped ready for immediate use, the goVisc 500 is a versatile instrument offering both immediate and reliable benchtop viscometry as well as an ideal solution to the challenges of real-time on-line viscosity measurement in automated or semi-automated laboratory processes.
