The XL7 is a pioneering new sensor design from recognised technology leaders in the field of online viscosity measurement. XL7 viscometers are already being deployed in every branch of industry, including pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, oil, paper, plastics and chemical engineering. Common applications include the online viscosity monitoring of fuel oils, lubricants, foodstuffs, resins and polymer melts, amongst many others.
The versatility of the system offers a wide range of configuration possibilities, such as custom-length probes or ultra-high sensitivity. With extensive experience of bespoke viscometer design, Hydramotion can supply a system to meet any process requirements.
The availability of continuous real-time measurement from the XL7 viscometer eliminates the need for laborious offline viscosity measurement, thereby increasing efficiency and cutting costly downtime. The result is tighter control over the process, reduced wastage and improved quality.
Very often valuable new insights are gained into the process itself. As one user commented, “The XL7 viscosity data enabled us to determine reaction issues that needed to be overcome.”
All XL7 viscometers are simple to install and maintenance-free in use. The sensor is an all-welded, crevice-free 316 stainless steel construction with no moving parts, seals or bearings. A high-polish, PTFE or custom finish can also be applied if required. As the XL7 always operates at the process temperature without requiring any special cooling, no inaccuracies can arise from localised changes in temperature around the sensor.
Every model is available in an intrinsically safe version certified for use in Zone 0 Hazardous Areas (Class 1, Division 1, Group A) (explosive atmosphere continuously present).
Outputs include a 4-20 mA analogue viscosity signal and a serial data link. The dedicated readout unit can be located up to 1000 metres from the sensor.
Although the XL7 has high sensitivity, it naturally rejects plant noise and vibration and is unaffected by fluctuations in flow or the presence of bubbles or solid particles. Every instrument is factory-calibrated using certified viscosity standards traceable to NIST, and as calibration is unaffected by the installation environment, on-site calibration is not necessary. A Hydramotion viscometer means years of uninterrupted and reliable viscosity measurement.
