Sensor solves challenging part-detection applications

Banner Engineering introduces the Q3X laser contrast sensor. With the ability to detect up to 2,000 events per second, the Q3X provides high-speed, reliable detection of parts, tools, pallets or registration marks with small contrast differences. The Q3X has a small laser spot and is an excellent sensor for reliable part presence, tool-in-place or broken tool detection in stamping and machining centers.

Featuring speeds as fast as 250μs and a sensing range up to 300mm, the Q3X suits high-speed packaging and detection applications of small targets, such as registration marks on packaging, or verifying placement of black gaskets and O-rings on machined metal parts.

“The Q3X was designed for precise detection in harsh environments,” said Dennis Smith, Technical Marketing Manager at Banner Engineering. “The bright laser spot and digital read-out allow machine builders to quickly set up the sensor for their application. The metal housing and robust construction means it will survive in their application.”

Featuring a unique angled, three-digit display of signal intensity, the Q3X provides high visibility of operating conditions from multiple angles. For an intuitive user setup, the Q3X has two tactile buttons conveniently located below the display.

Designed with robust nickel-plated zinc die cast housing, the Q3X provides superior performance, even in environments with exposure to cutting fluids and oils. Sensors are also rated to IP67, IP68 and IP69K for enhanced protection to water submergence and high-pressure washdown.
